DECEMBER 11 • SATURDAY EVENING, DECEMBCR II SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13. 1953 WAIDORF-ASTOKIA HOTIL N|W YORK NEW YORK (Special) — Tho amount of aid which American Jews will be called on to make available to the United Jewish Appeal in 1954 for the settlement and development of Israel, tjic v?plfare and rehabili¬ tation of distressed Jews in European and Moslem lands, and refugee reception and adjustment in the U. S. will be assessed and fixed by more than 1,200 delegates representing communities throughout the 48 states aa they meet in New York Dec. 11-12-13 for the annual National Conference of the UJA. The three-day annual Conference | will determine the sums to be sought from America's Jewish com- ! munltiea on the baais of the financ- i ial needs presented by the UJA'a three constituent agencies, the United Israel Appeal, Joint Dis¬ tribution Committee and United Service for New Americana. Each agency will submit a detailed state¬ ment of its budgetary requirements for the coming year and at the aame time wlll report on ita ac¬ hievements during 1963. A preview of the operations to be conducted next year by the UJA agencies shows that they will op¬ erate in a minimum of 25 coun¬ tries on five continents and that the heaviest sums are intended for expe\iditure In programs of Immi¬ grant settletnent and agricultural expansion and development In Is¬ rael. The Conference, in setting the stage for the UJA'a 1954 nation¬ wide campaign, which will come aa its 16th auccessive annual drive for funds, will hear from a roster of noted American, Israeli and Jewish communal figures, such as Mrs. Eleanor Rooaevelt; Israel -Fi¬ nance Minister Cevl Eahkol; Israel Ambassador to the U, S., Abba S. Eban, and others.
