One of the most Important projects, there¬ fore, ns the Hadassah Medical Cen¬ ter. \^ On June 5, 1952, Hadassah broke ground for the the new Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center in Ain Karcm, west of Jerusalem. Forced to vacate the Mt Scopus Medical Center during the War of Independence, -4Iadassph fitted' out five inadequate and out-modcd buildings as hospitals during and after the selge of Jerusalem. The enormous Increase of Israel's, population and doubling of Jeru¬ salem inhabitants have greatly In. creased the percentage of new¬ comers desperately in need of medi. cal aid. Hadassah has always been "the address" to which the medical profession througliout Israel could come for refresher training, „could send its difficult cases. Hadassah has also established a reputation for. original research and for high quality of staff of experts. Because of this Pressing need for a new and modern plant where medical teaching, too, can proceed on a high standard, Hadassah bullda again.
