Later Tuesday, Mr. Varon visited Mayor M. E. Sonsertbrenner with Dr. Mlndlln, Mr. GUbert and Mor¬ ris Portman, the Mayor's executive assistant.
The following statement in sup¬ port of Israel was Issued by Mr. S(»nsenbrennor:

Late in the afternoon, Jack Sher and Mrs. Sherman Sharwell were sponsors of a cocktail-recep¬ tion for Mr. Varon In the Mara¬ mor. At that, off-the-record meet¬ ing, the Oonsul frankly stated the dangers hla country now faces and appealed for help from the Jr ish community through Inveatment purchases of Israel Bonds.
Herbert Cummins was general chairman of the evening meeting Rabbi Nathan Zellzer offered the opening prayer and Vvas followed by Miss Barbara Cohen, who sang a group of songa accompanied by Mrs. Sanford Betker.
Mra. Ben Kahn introduced h group of dancers who interpretefi dances from Israel. Tho Council of Jewish Women'a project was im¬ pressively done and Mra. Milton Parker and Mra. Maxine Papurt were commentators.
Mrs. Frank Yaaaenoff and Mrs. Meyer Hoffman apoke on behalf of B'nai B'rith Women; Dr. B. T. Mindlin Introduced Mr. Varon, who spoke for almost an hour to people who hung on to hia every word.

The world-famous Cantor Llebelt) Waldman will present a concert here Tuesday evening, March 8, under the sponsorship of B'nai B'rith Zion Lodge 62. If will be a paid-up membership affair, which meana all paid-up members and their wives will bo admitted free. All others will be charged, $2.50 at the door.
It will be two-hour affair, with Cantor Waldman rendering liturgi¬ cal chants. Yiddish folk songs and Israeli and English songs. Next week's Clironlcle will announce whore the musical event will be held.
During Interrfjiission. the Sanford I. Lakin Memorial Award will be [¦presented to an outstanding mem¬ ber of the Jewish community, ac¬ cording to Harry S. Goldstein, chairman.
(^ntor Waldman, although wide¬ ly known, has never performed in Columbus. He has appeared at Grosalnger's every year during the high holidays for the past 12 years.

GORDON ZACKS
Heads Young Adult Division of UJF
The Young Adult Council hos \ unanimously selected Gordon Zacks to serve as chairman o( the Young Adult Division of the United Jewish Fuftd for 1956.
Mr. Zacks served as co-chairman of the Youth Division In 1961. ad¬ visor to that division In 1953, and vice-chairman of the United Jew¬ ish Fund at Ohio State In 1954.
While attending Dartmouth Col. lege, he was elected vice-president of the sophomore claas, and vice- president of the sophomore honor¬ ary society. He was also a member of the. student senate, student court, academic committee and Pi Lamda Phi fraternity.
Mr. Zacks transferred to Ohio State in 1953 and was graduated from tho College of Commerce last June.
He Is employed by the R. G. Barry Corp. and resides with hU wife, Carol Sue, at 1280 S. James.
