Special Neighborhood Affairs Project Launched by UJF's Young Matrons Mrs. Sherman Sharwell, 1446 E. Broad St., was hostess at her home for an early-morning meet¬ ing of chairmen and speakers for Young Matrons and Young Adults of United Jewish Fund's Women's Division. They met to co-ordinate the pro¬ gram for the newly-inaugurated neighborhood affairs — a project which started last Tursday at the home of Mrs. Howard L Good¬ man, 180 S. Merkle Rd., with Mrs. Theodore Barneby aia co-hostess, OANTOB SOHREIBB CONSUL BEN-HAIM ISRAa CONSUL BEN-HAIM MAIN SPEAKER FOR PIONEER WOMEN'S DONOR MARCH 23 Shaul Ben-Halm, consul of Israel, will be the featured sbpeaker at the Pioneer Women's annual donor dinner at the Jewlah Center Sunday, March 23. He was born in Berlin, Germany, and moved to Palestine in 1933. He received his education in Palestine and during the war served in the Jewish Settlements Police Force. In 1945, he was appointed Administrative Assistant In the World War II Vet¬ erans' Administration. At the putbreak of hostilities in 1948, Ben-Halm was active in the Manpower Division of the Isracl Ministry of Defense. In 1949 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the newly-established Ministry of Supply and Rationing. In 1950, he entered the Foreign Service arid was appointed Sec¬ retary of the Israel Legation for the Scandinavian Countries, In charge of Press and Infortnatlon. He returned to Israel In 1953 as Principal Asslstaht in the Eco¬ nomic Division of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where he was in Dharge of the desk dealing with Israel's economic relations with the British Commonwealth and with export planning. In February, 1966, Ben-Halm was appointed Consul In the Con¬ sulate General of Israel In Chi¬ cago. Cantor Irving Sohreier of Tem¬ ple Tifereth Israel will sing sev¬ eral selections at the dinner Cantor Schreler is a graduate of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath and MesUta Torah Vodaath of Brook¬ lyn. He also attended New York City College, studied voice with Prof. Reld of Marymount College in New York, and completed his musical education with the Music Department of the University of Notre Dame, where he studied v/lth Prof. Cecil Birder. Cantor Schreier has performed jn many concerts and rex;ltals, including television and radio ap¬ pearances. He has appeared at the Palace Theatre of South Bend, Ind., was the, soloist for the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and has been the con¬ cert singer for the Jewish Nation¬ al Fund of South Bend. Cantor Schreler will be accom¬ panied by Mrs. A. L. Greenspun. The donor dinner will not be open to the general public. Only through a donation of $18 or more can one who la not a mem¬ ber attend. Anyone wanting to donate can contact Mrs. Samuel Hahn, CL. 8-8332, general- donor chairman. This year, Ploner Women of Columbus have pledged to raise $3,650, to be used In furthering Its support of schools, training centers, homes for children, etc.. In Israel. ' , The neighborhood project will enable many of the contributors to acquaint themselves with their neighbors and learn the aims and purposes of the UJF.
