JERUSALEM, (JTA)—A "truce ot silence" was observed by all aides tnvolved In thc conflict between Premier David Ben-Gurlon and Histadrut leader Pinhas Lavon tollowing the pledge given Mon¬ day to President Izhak Ben-Zvi to refrain from any further public statements ot any kind, while efforts are being made to settle the conflict.
While no further public utter¬ ances were being Issued, two sep¬ arate efforts to solve the crisis were being made. A five-man spe¬ cial committee of the Cabinet was working on a statement to Introduce to the emergency meet¬ ing of the entire C3ablnet. At the same time, leaders of the Mapai party were preparing to select a coniimlttee of five to seven mem¬ bers of their party to probe Into thc entire matter involving Prime Minister David Ben-Gurlon and former Minister of Defense Pin¬ has Lavon,
Mapal's central committee voted in favor of selecting such a com¬ mittee, after adopting a resolu¬ tion which, like Ben-Zvl'a demand, requested all parties to observe "a truce ot silence" by refraining from further public airing of the arguments. Mapai requested both Ben-Gurion and Lavon not to r&sign their posts. Lavon is secre¬ tary-general of Histadrut, Israel's Federation of Labor.
THE CABINET committee, pre¬ paring a statement for the emer¬ gency meeting, hopes to get agree¬ ment from all sides to a view which is a compromise on Ben- Gurlon's criticism of a previous Bovon- man Cabinet . committee which absolved Lavon of respons¬ ibility for a 1954 "security mis¬ hap." The new statement would point out that Ben-Gurion was only criticizing the old commit¬ tee's procedeures, but was not Impugning the integrity of the members of the committee.
Lavon had, earlier, threatened to issue a public statement, reply¬ ing sharply to Ben-Gurion's ac¬ cusations airainst him, Ex-Pre¬ mier Moshe Sharett, who headed the Government at the time La¬ von resigned from the Defense Ministry in 1955, met with Lavon, presumably to get him to agree to keep the "truce of silence" and ' times, its enemies were silent and not to aggravate the situation any struck unawares, but twice as further, deadly and effective, In taldng
