VS. Sjunding Out Leasing Possibility Of Sliarm el Sheikh
JERUSALEM (JTA)~The United States is feeling out the gov^mnients of Egypt and Saudi Arabia on the possibility of leasing to Israel the Sharm el-Sheikh strongpoint in southern Suiai or the off-shore islands of Sanafir and Tiran opposite Sharm el-Sheildi, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned from reliable sources today. Such an arrangement would enable Israel to control the strategic Straits of Tiran giving its port of Eilat access to the sea-Avhile Egypt and Saudi Arabia retained sovereignty over their territory. According to the report, an Israeli leasehold on the two islands would be an idtemative to a lease oh Sharm el-Sheikh. The islands guarduig the Stratis of Tiran were garrisoned by Egypt under an arrangement with the Saudi govemment in June, 1967. They - are presently uninhabited. The JTA also learned reliably that bi his private con¬ versation m Washington last Monday-' with Israeli President Zalman Shazar, President Nixon- promised that ''as- long as I am President the flow of arms to Israel will continue and the taps will remain open." Nixon's pledge, the sources said, was not conditional on Israeli concessions in the conflict vi^ith; the Arabs. Nixon was also said to _have stressed to Shazar >that Israel should accept in¬ ternational guarantees and troops, askuig: ".Is there a greater security for Israel than American troops along the border and a written American guarantee?"

Dr. Kohane joined the JDC in 1944 in Tehran, where he directed a package relief program providing food and other vitally needed supplies to European Jews fleeing Europe ahead of the in¬ vading German armies. He escaped himself jiist before his country was over-mn by the Nazis. Until 1067, when the Polish Government asked the JDC to terminate its activities in that country.

Huntington National Bank Kicks'off Bond Campaign
Ed Stan, Institutional Sales Chairman for the 1971 State of Israel Bond oam- paign, announced that the Huntington National Bank and Trust-^Company pur¬ chased $7&,000 in State of Israel Bonds to begin the institutional sales campaign in Columbus. This $75,000 sale brought the total Israel Bonds purchased and held by the Huntington National Bank to $200,000.
