FRATERNITY HAS 32 UN¬ DERGRADUATE CHAPTERS
NEW VORK —Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, aniojig the foremdst of Jewish leaders in Americi, has liceii aw,irtle<l the Gotthcil Medal, an honor ior which Frciident Coolidee and a former Secre¬ tary of State of the United States were scrioufaly considered. Thc Gottheil Medal is awarded by the Zeta Beta Tau Fra¬ ternity, a national Jewish college organ¬ ization to that American who IS con¬ sidered to have . rendered thc greatest service to Judaism. The medal, of which Rabbi Wiic is to he the first recipient, will be awarded annually to honor Pro¬ fessor Richard J. H. Gottheil, who was for eight years president of the fra¬ ternity., The award to, Rabbi Wise is- made for thc year 1925 following his selection by a committee of eleven prom¬ inent Jewish editors from all ovtr the United States.
Thc .¦\warding Committee which ac- lectcd Rabbi Wise inchided the follow¬ ing:
Herman Bernstein-, editor of the Jewish Trrbune, New York City; Alexander Bri'nn, editor of the Boston Jewish Ad¬ vocate; JiDseph Cnmmins, editor of the Cilifornia Jewish Review; Jacob Fish- man, managing editor of the Jewish Morning Journal, New York City; Felix ;N, Gefson, .editor of the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent; Charlei Joseph, edi¬ tor of tlte Pittsburgh Jewish Criterion; Jacob Landau, thc Jewish Telegraphic .Agency; Isaac Landman, editor of the American Hebrew; Rabbi Gerson B. Levi, editor of the Chicago Reform Ad¬ vocate ; Rabbi Mendel. Silbcr, editor of the New Orleans Jewi.sh Ledger; Leo Wise, editor of the American Israelite, Citicinnati/Ohio.
In a preliminary discussion by mail (hei.e editors suggested the names of Cal¬ vin Coolidge, Charles Evans Hughes, Louis Marshall; -David A' Brown, Stephen S. Wise, John W. Herring, and Lewis Browne as persons worthy of the award to he made. President Coolidge .reteived serious con.sideration from the committee for his Omaha speech against ; bigotry, which was regarded as having done iniich to disarm the Klaii, and thus indirectly of thc greatest service to Amer¬ ican Jewry, Because of his advocacy of tolerance expressed in a speech before the American Bar Association, which was regarded us of great service to the Jewish people, former Secretary of State Charlej. Evans Hughes was strongly urged for the award by several members of the Committee. Louis Marshall, Pres¬ ident of the American Jewish Committee, and,David A. Broivn, chairman of the American Jewish dmpaign, who have been more than ordinarily active in phil- anthrojiic affairs, received a number of votes. Lewis Browne was mentioned for his book, "Stranger Than Fiction". Con- sideration was given the Rev. Dr, John A. Herring for; his activities as chair¬ man of the Conjmittee on Good Will Be¬ tween Jews and Christians.
The Awarding Committee, "in a final telegniphic Jiallot yesterday, decided! that the outstanding man of this group Ra'Iibi, Stephen S. Wi.sc, and that he, of all Americans, rendered the greatest serv¬ ice to Judaisnr during 1035. Approximately $190,000 in Subscriptions Already Received, Declares E. J. S.
Local .Jewish Community Chest Is
Gradually Being Pilled—«60,000
Still to Be Raised By
Teams of Worker.?
-Approximately $lflC,000 in subscrip¬ tions has already been received at thc office of Edwhi J. Schanfarber, Chair¬ man of the campaign' for the Columbus United Jewish Fund.' Teams of workers are continually canvassing the city and eliciting subscriptions from folks ivho have up-tordate not been approached.
The imperative neces.sity for co-oper- .ition in order, to put this 'campaign over, has been rctlized by every, conscientious Jew in the city. The realization has come to all that wc have been united for I a most noble purpose and there is no [ question but that every Jew .and Jewess in the city'will do their share, From a survey ¦ of ' the fine beginning already made, one is inclined to be optimistic regarding thc final outcome of the drive.
"Let every one," declared Mr. Schan¬ farber, "keep in mind the beautiful slo¬ gan of the campaign: 'All For One And One For All In Living And In Giving,' so that every dollar needed to fill the quota will be secured."
Elsewhere in this issue the Chronicle is publishing the Honor Roll of sub¬ scribers. Of course this is only the ini¬ tial instalment.

They wish to thank all the men who have given so faithfully of thejr time. and energy to put the production over so wonder¬ fully; especially the Uiiivcrsity boys from Z. B. ,not least, they wish to thank Mrs. H. B. Miller for her splen¬ did work nt the piano during rehearsals. It is needless to say that thc co-operation of the pa- :rons and patronesses was highly appreciated.

will. Every clement of Columbus Jewry was present at the performance.
The show this year was again staged under the'direction of S. W. Rcilly, vet¬ eran local minstrel coach; and it was largely through the splendid cooperation of this genial fellow and the fine galaxy of talented men in the cast- that the af¬ fair, "was put over big." Everyone en- joycd'the two .md h.-ilf hours entertain¬ ment to the n'th degree. The impression was current, that had an admission fee of $1.50 bi^en charged, everyone would have felt that he had been under charged. The opening chorus was a genuine sur¬ prise, taking the house by .storm. The chorus was tastefully, garbed and ren¬ dered its songs with a vim and a dash which one is inclined.to attribute to regu¬ lar professionals only. That the audi¬ ence was highly pleased with the work of the chorus as well as of the End Men, was evidenced by the many spontaneous outbursts of applause and the many in¬ sistent demands for encores.
I. W. Garek (alias Attorney Isadore Walton Garek) and Dr. S- D. Edelman (the undertaker's friend) were among the outstanding surprises of thc. evening —the former winning the sympathy of the audience (especially the married men) with his p.ithetic and impassioned rendering of "Poor Papa" and the latter by his exceptionally fine rendering of "I Want To Go Where You Go."
The minstrel was presented in two parts: the first being the usual "Yoiw Ask-Mc-And-ril-TcU-you," and the lat¬ ter consisting of olio, or specialty .num- i ben. The "gags" aimed at "local lights" in the audience were joyfully as well as graciously received .
Universal applause greeted Messrs. Ben de Grool, Justin Rosenthal, and Henry Moritz, Zeta Beta Tau boys, ot O. .S. U., when they presented their comic skits and rendered their quauit It seems as if the
