TEL AVIV (WNS) — No decision has been made yet /
on the next step in the Middle East peace negotiations,
Foreign Minister Yigal Allon told reporters here after
returning from his talks with American officials in
Washington. He said the next step will come after other
Israeli and Arab officials hold talks in Washington this
month, Earlier in New York, Allon told a meeting of
American Jewish leaders that he was satisfied with his
talks with American Administration and
Congressional officials. He said he had also discussed
the fate of Soviet and Syrian Jewry and found the
Administration cares about their fate.
NEW YORK (WNS) — Some Soviet Jewish activists
who were dismissed when they first applied to
emigrate to Israel have been offered their old jobs
back on condition they withdraw! their applications,
according to the National Conference on Soviet Jewry.
It was reported, however, that many of them would be
getting only half of their previous salaries. One of the
most prominent among the group is the 26 - year - old
astrophysicist Evgeny Levich, who was recently
released after one year of imprisonment in a military
/ installation. Although Levich was not required to with¬
draw his application, observers noted that the sen¬
sitive nature of his work could prevent his departure at
a later date. NCSJ chairman Stanley Lowell said the
new move is welcome, but if it "represents subtle
bribery or extortion, then U.S. citizens, especially our
Congress, will be very alert to the implications of a
possible new tactic aimed at halting emigration of
certain Jews."

you, thank you for our lives," Valery Pahpv said. "You
have not only helped us, you have given fresh hope.to
the entire Russian intelligensia, as well as opening the
way for more of our people. The least we can do in
teturn is try and give you the best, the very best within
the confines of our art."

Oil Firms Undertook Propaganda Campaign
Against Israel Under King Faisals Orders
WASHINGTON (JTA) —
the four American oil firms
comprising the huge
Arabian - American Oil Co.
(ARAMCO) undertook a six-
month propaganda cam¬
paign last year, under orders
from King Faisal of Saudi
Arabia, to diminish- United
States support of Israel, a
Senate subcommittee
reported - on Aug. 6. The
Senate Foreign Relations
subcommittee on multi-
Ma tional corpora tions said,
in releasing previously
secret testimony, that the
campaign was started in
May, 1973 by Mobil, Exxon,
Texaco and Standard Oil of
California from its chair¬
man, Otto Miller on July 26,
1973, urging support for "the
aspirations of the Arab
people." The letter was the
first time a major oil
company took a public stand
on the Arab side- of the
Middle East issue.
The • Faisal threat
reportedly was made during
a May 23, 1973 meeting in
Geneva between the King,
other Saudi Arabian leaders
and ARAMCO officials. Sen.
Franc Church (D. Idaho),
said ARAMCO officials met
with'U.S. government of¬
ficials after Faisal made his
threat. The propaganda and
lobbying campaign extended
into Oct. 1973, highlighted by
a letter to President Nixon
which apparently was not''

Nixon Urged Daughters To Stay Away
From "Arts" Because Of Jews, Leftists
Washington (jta> -
President Nixon wanted his
daughters to keep away
from "the arts" during the
1972 election campaign
because the people in them
were Jews and leftists,
according to* the transcripts
of conversations released by
the:White Hqusif oil Aug; 6;
Nixon's statement was
contained in the first of three
recorded conversations he
had with his then Chief of
Staff, H.R. Haldeman in the
Oval Room of the White
House June 23,1972, six days
after the Watergate break-
in. The two were discussing
areas where .. Nixon's
daughters, Julie and Tricia,
could campaign and also the
possibility of harm to them
from hecklers. The
President then said: "For
example —now the worst
thing (unintelligible) is to go
to anything that has to do
with the arts.". Haldeman
replied: "Ya, see that — it
was (unintelligible) Julie
giving that time in the
museum in Jacksonville."
Nixon: "The arts you know
—i> they're: Jews,; 7 they're
leftwing — in other wordsj
stay away. Make a point."
Haldeman: "Sure." Nixon:
"Middle America — put that
word out — Middle America
type of people.-.'. Bob, relate
it to Middle America and not
the elitist (unintelligible).
Do you agree?" Haldeman:
"Yep, sure do."
Last May the New. York
Times and CBS reported that
in transcripts the White
House turned over earlier
Nixon had used ethnic slurs
including anti - Jewish
comments such as ■ "Jew
boys" in private talks with
aides. This was at the time
categorically denied by
White House Counsel J. Fred
Buzhardt. Meanwhile B'nai
B'rith President David M.
Blurnberg issued. a
statement declaring that,he

issue took place between
ARAMCO officials and
Secretary of State Henry A.
Kissinger at his request.
According to the testimony,
a staff investigator told the
Senators at a closed hearing
in June that Congress would
have to decide on the
propriety of the ARAMCO
effort and that ARAMCO,
"under the U.S. companies,
is an instrument of the Saudi
Arabian government in
carrying out Saudi orders in
terms of influencing United
States foreign policy."
The testimony data
showed thatW.W. Messick of
SQCAL, who is , also
ARAMCO's top technical
officer, testified that the
Arab oil embargo imposed
after;the Ypm Kippur War
took the oil combine "off the
hook" because ARAMCO
faced a forced cutback in
production because of
technical problems and
delays in' delivery of
equipment needed to develop
Saudi Arabia's huge oil
