You tell me I'm selfish and

aliyah is an, act diametrically opposed to the
notion of selfishness? It is
the, ultimate expression of

Editor's note: This letter, submitted
by the Israel Department ol the Columbus Jewish Federation, \ryas sent
by one dHhe leaders ot the Jewish Students at Ohio State University to his
parents alter his decision to make
Aliyah to Israel. His decision created
antagonism between his parents, who
educated him to love Israel, and the
consequences,, that his education
brought.
Dear Mom and Dad,
It's been difficult for us to
communicate these past few
months since I finally announced to you that I plan on
making aliyah this summer.
You've chosen to ignore my
growing interest in Israel
and Zionism and hoped I
would simply "outgrow" it.
"A passing fad," you called
it.
_ No, I'm not a Moonie. no
I'm not brainwashed, nor am
I concerned only with myself, or intent on hurting you.
As a result of the pain you've
experienced, you have been
unwilling to listen to any
explanations on my part as
to why I want to move to Israel. Perhaps this let ten will
help clarify my feelings and
convey to you my reasoning
and motivation.

understand. On the other
hand, perhaps' you understand better than I give you.
