On behalf of the Jewish
National Fund of Columbus,
Martin Hoffman, President,
wishes to thank all those who
volunteered their time and
supported the JNF booth at
the Ohio State Fair. Hoffman
stated, "the cooperation of
the community in assisting
us with this huge project was
overwhelming and, ascertains the importance of
JNF."
He also stated that,
"without the dedication of
the executive board;

of the Fair Project, Irving
"Buddy" Marks, Bill

The . Columbus Board of
Rabbis has elected Rabbi
Marvin-Possick of Congregation Ahavas Sholom as its
President for 1980-81. Rabbi .
Possick has been in Columbus for two years-. During
this .time in addition to
acting as the spiritual leader
of Ahavas' Sholom, Rabbi
Possick has been active >on
the New. Americans, 'Committee of Jewish Family Ser- •
vice, the Education Committee of the Columbus
Torah Academy,, and the
Columbus Va'ad Hair
(kashrus supervision).
He also serves as. the Jew- -
ish Chaplain at the Columbus- Correctional Institute
and is the only practicing
Mohel in the city. Rabbi Possick received his B.A. in psychology,- M.S. in Jewish
Rabbi Marvin Possick
education, and Rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University. Prior to coming to
Columbus, he-served as a
Rabbi in Long Island City,
N.Y.
Rabbi Harold Berman of.
Congregation Tifereth Israel
will be serving as the
- Board's Vice-President. Also
a relative newcomer to Co
lumbus. Rabbi Berman has
already made a mark both in
his own synagogue and the
Columbus Jewish community.

Beth Jacob Sets Speakers For Annual R.E.W.
R.E.W., Religious Emphasis Week, will host the
, second of two guest lectures
on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at
"8:15 p.m.TKe speaker for the"
evening will be Dr. Michael
Wyschogrod, Chairman of
the Philosophy Department
at Baruch College, City University of New York. Dr.
Wyschogrod has written and
spoken extensively on matters of current concern to the
Jewish community. His writings have appeared in
"Tradition Magazine."
"Judaism," and other national Jewish-journals. He
Hall Of Fame. Committee
elects 1980 Inductees
The Hall of Fame
Committee announces the
1980 inductees for The
Columbus Jewish Center
Hall of Fame. Ron Golden,
chairman of the- committee,
welcomes Mendy Snyder,
Howard Schoenbaum, and
B.B. Caplan, all Columbus
residents, as the 1980
selections. The fourth
honoree, Joe Bonowitz, will
receive the award
posthumously.
Pictures and complete
biographies on each Hall of-
Famer will appear in the
next several issues of the
Chronicle. The Hall of Fame
affair will be Sunday
evening, Oct. 19.
Additional National
Jewish Sports Hall of
Famers and other local
sports celebrities will attend
this memorable occasion.
Campaign Leaders Recognized
By now invitations to the
54th Annual meeting of the
Columbus Jewish Federation should have been received by all Federation
members according to an
announcement by Rhea
Kaplan, "Annual Meeting
chairperson,
"With the reservation
deadline set for Friday;
Sept. 5, those still wishing to
make a reservation are
urged to do so this week,"
she said.
The meeting, to i?e held on
Sunday, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. at
Temple Israel will feature a

Special Care Pavilion to be dedicated, at Heritage
House, this Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
The presentation of the 1980 Eleanor and Jack Resler
"Life With Dignity" Award to Sol Morton Isaac for. his
extraordinary devotion to the ideals and purposes of
Herjtage, House will be a feature of the afternoon
program.
A tour of the Pavilion and a champagne-reception
will conclude the festivities marking the Heritage '
Village celebration of National Grandparents Day.

Dr. Michael Wyschogrod
presently serves on the editorial board of "Tradition
Magazine."
According to Mrs. Richard
Kohn, Chairperson for
R.E.W,, Dr. Wyschogrod is
an internationally known
scholar both.in secular and
Jewish studies, and has a
great many insights into the .
effects of the secular world
on the Jew.
The topic for R.E.W. this.
year is "Who Are The
Teachers?—an examination
of the gaps in the home and
the community." Professor
Wyschogrod will address the
particular problems of the
Jew in his home, specifically
why the Jew may not feel the
proverbial "home is his
castle." He will also
-examine who are the posU
tive communicators in contemporary society and.how
many young people have returned to traditional Jewish
practices.
