Much has already been writtch, and much more will be written on Achad iHa'Am as the pure philosopher. But by far the most im¬ portant aspect of him is the personal, ex¬ pressing itself, it is true, in his philoso¬ phy, but not in philosophy as an academic quantity, but as an iinmcdiafe guiding; influence in thc lives of men,
"I judge his cxtraordhiary influence on others by the simple standard of in¬ fluence upon himself. In the more than a qna'rter of a century that I have known him, personally as well as through his writings, oue impression has prevailed', with increasing force: He was the most honest man, intellectually, that I have ever known. He ivould never permit you fo pass oft a sham for a real thing.. Always he was. too critical, loo clear- sided to alldw any sort of pretentious- nes*:, any sort of unfounded claim toi pass by witliout a challenge."
Thousands of other striking tributes, by noted men have already appeared in: the public press.
