accused the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington of
violating American law by providing a service that gives information over the telephone on the Arab boycott of Israel, it
was reported in the AJCongress' month publication, Boycott
Report. The Saudi Arabian practice was described as an

Broadcast License Renewal Applications
Of Six Pennsylvania NBC-TV Affiliates
Challenged By Americans For A Safe Israel
WBRE-TV of Scranton/
Wilkes-Barre. The NBC
Network in New York has
repeatedly refused to
comment on the AFSI petitions. . '■ , '
NEW YORK (JTA)-
Americans For A Safe Israel
(AFSI) has filed petitions
with the Federal Communications Commission chair
lenging the broadcast renewal license applications of
six Pennsylvania affiliates
of the NBC television
network because, according
to the AFSI, the network
violated federal law by
presenting distorted coverage of the war in Lebanon.
In the nearly 100-page petition, the New YOrk-based
AFSI filed with the FCC, the
six NBC affiliates, including
KYW-TV in Philadelphia,
will be charged with biased
and inaccurate reporting,
according to Laurie Wag-
man, a co-plaintiff in the
license renewal challenge
and a native of Philadelphia.
"Being actively involved
in publishing, I know the
importance of fair and
accurate reporting, "Wag-
man, who_ is founder of
American Theater for Youth
and publisher of magazines
for educators, told a news
conference. "NBC News
violated this Journalistic
tenet repeatedly during its
report of the Lebanon conflict and apparently continues to do so. We, as
citizens, must take the
necessary steps to assure a
more objective and unbiased
media."
Wagman was joined atthe
news conference by Peter
Goldman, the executive
director of the AFSI, who is
producer and writer of a
AFSI documentary, "NBC in
Lebanon: A Study of Media
Misrepresentation." The
58-minute film demonstrates
how NBC allegedly distorted
coverage of the war in Lebanon after the Israeli invasion in June, 1982,
The documentary serves
as the basis of the AFSI
petitions'" against the six
stations. Besides KYW-TV,
petitions have also been filed
against WPXI-TV.of Pittsburgh; WICU-TV of Erie;
W J AC-TV of Johnstown;
WGAL-TV of Lancaster; and
a coalition government.
Shamir, renewing his call
for unity, said after the election that "preliminary discussions with a number of
parties on either a national
unity government or a
Likud-led government have
been favorable."
Peres, told supporters that
even though "labor has
emerged as the biggest
party in the campaign, it is
our duty to try to form the
next government."
Experts predicted that it
could take several days of
interparty maneuvering to
establish which of the two
major parties is able to form
the new'government.

Jewish Remains Buried In England
LONDON (JTA)-The remains of 500 people who
lived in England eight centuries ago were reburied at
York last week in a Jewish
funeral service conducted by
Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jako-
bovits.
The bodies, believed to be
mostly of Jews, were re-
interred in a part of the city
call Jewbury, the reputed
site of pne of the most important Jewish cemeteries of
medieval England. The remains had been discovered
during development of the
land to make way for a
supermarket. Until then, the
site had not been recognized
as a Jewish cemetery.
At the ceremony, Jakobo-
vits noted that the Anglo-
Jewish community had
ceased to exist with the expulsion of Jews from this
country in 1290 and was not
revived until 1656, when
Oliver Cromwell authorized
the readmission of Jews to
England. '.,.
A century before the ex-1
pulsion, York had also been
the site of a notorious pias-
sacre of the city's Jewish
community, many of whom
preferred to take their own
lives rather than die at the
hands of their.Christian attackers.
In consecrating Jewbury
as. a Jewish burial ground,
the Chief Rabbi was disregarding the tradition that
the City of York should be
boycotted by Orthodox Jews
because of the medieval
massacre which occurred
there. Eight years ago, the
chief rabbi, together with
leading Christian clergy, un-
