JNF Playing Role
In Development
Of Tourist Complex
Israel has embarked on a
$20 million tourism development complex at the Sea of
Galilee and the Jewish National Fund is playing a
major role in its development. This area will offer
vacationers and tourists a
fresh water lakeside
bonanza of recreational
oportunities such as motel
accommodations, camping
grounds, water sports facilities, lakeside park and
bathing beaches, restaurants and a four-star hotel.
Advance JNF land and infrastructure preparations
'are in progress at the site
known as Amnun Bay, which
spans 580 acres of Galilee
coastline. When, completed,
Amnun Bay recreational
facilities will accommodate
some 1750 guests and service
a targeted 5000 daily visitors.
Eight Galilee villages,
three kibbutzim and five
moshavim will jointly
administer the projected
services. When fully operational, it will employ 200 inhabitants from the shareholding village, kibbutzim
and moshavim and will provide as much as 30 percent of
their tptal income.
Amnun Bay is the single,
largest land development
project ever undertaken in
the Galilee. The Jewish National Fund's preparation of
the land and partnership
with the Tourism Ministry's
Development Authority and
the Jewish Agency will
economically strengthen the
Galilee region.

Visit To Israel Not Political

Heritage Village Auxiliary
'Volunteer Of The Year'
Debbie Portman and
Shirlie Levitin, co-presidents
of the Heritage Village Auxiliary, announce that Marion
Soomsky has been selected
to receive the 1987 Heritage
Village Auxiliary Volunteer
of the Year Award. The
presentation of the award to
Soomsky will be one of the
highlights of the Auxiliary's
Volunteer Recognition at
Winding Hollow Country
Club on Wednesday, July 29,
at 12 noon.
"I am overwhelmed by
this honor," stated Soomsky
as she was informed of her
selection by. the Volunteer
Awards Sub-Committee.
Soomsky,   a   native  of
Columbus, first became a
Village Volunteer when
asked to serve as salesperson in the Auxiliary's Gift'
Gallery. She soon became
financial secretary for the
Auxiliary and continues in
that position today.

JERUSALEM (JTA) —A
Soviet consular delegation ..
met briefly with Foreign
Ministry officials here last
week, insisting the visit to Israel, the first in 20 years by
an official Soviet group, was
technical and without political significance.
Yaacov Aviad, head of the
Foreign Ministry's consular
division, the senior Israeli to
meet with the visitors from
Moscow, described their discussion as "extremely positive" and "a good beginning."
Aviad declined to respond
to suggestions by reporters
that the three-man Soviet
mission, accompanied by
staff, seemed too large for
the stated purpose of their
visit—to review the status of
Soviet nationals and Soviet
property in Israel.
Thie leader of the Soviet
delegation, Yevgeny Anti-
pov, who heads the consular
department of the Soviet
Foreign Ministry, showed no
disinclination to speak to Israeli reporters."
After his meeting at the
Foreign Ministry, Antipov,
told reporters a reciprocal
visit to Moscow by an Israeli
delegation was precluded because there are no Israeli na
tionals or Israeli property in
the USSR.

York's famed Algonquin
Hotel.  He  has  played  to

Los Angeles Philharmonic

Hollywood Bowl, In October,,
he will begin a European
tour with Liza Mirinelli.

Leo Yassenoff Jewish Center. On Sept. 20, he will return to his hometown to perr
form at the.Jewish Center.
Proceeds of this special performance will be used to
establish a permanent endowment fund for the Center's Cultural Arts Department. The Center has organized a Blue Ribbon Committee to plan the event,
which will be co-chaired by
Fred Luper and Bea Roth.

Meeting," announced

president. "In the 61st year
of our community work, we

to plan our yearly event,"
she added.
The Federation's Annual
Meeting will be held on Sunday evening, Oct; 4, at Agudas Achim Synagogue. The
program will include the
election of Federation board
members and officers; a
presentation of Therese
Stern Kahn Young Leader-
• ship Award, Community
Award of Excellence and
Federation Rabbinic Award,
and the Abe I. Yenkin Memorial Address.

Columbus Bonds Delegation
Meets With Israeli Leaders
Harlan Ruben, Dr. Norman and Deborah Shub and
Jeffrey Edelstein of Columbus were among the 70 young
Jewish leaders who met with
Israel President Chaim Her-
zog and other Israeli leaders
as.participants in a recent
11-day tour of Israel by the
1987 Israel Bond New
Leadership Delegation.'
Delegation members included Jewish business people and professionals ages 25
to 40 from 28 communities in
the United States and
Canada.
They met with Defense
Minister Yitzhak Rabin,
Finance Minister Moshe Nis-
sim and Minister Moshe
Arens and were hosted by
young Israeli business and
professional counterparts.
The delegates also took part
in observances commemorating the 20th anniversary
of the reunification of Jerusalem.
The tour was designed to
increase awareness by
young Jewish leaders in
North America of the
achievements and successes, as well as needs and
problems, of the State of Israel.
In addressing the delegates at a private reception
at his residence, President
Herzog paid tribute to the
