Rubinow,' uf Philadelphia, to head the program conunittee, Because of the fact that Cinciiuuti has one of the oldest Jewish conimuuities in thc coimtry and wa<; the first city to adopt the Federation, idea for pooling its communal re*iolirccs, a large representation nf laymen is expected to attend thc sessions and Mr. Waldman is designating the Conference as a reunion ' year in order to welcome volunteer social workers from all over the country to join with the prufessional men and women who are usually in attendance.      '
Throughout its twenty-seven years of existence, the Conference has served three principal purposes: It has enabled lho,sc interested in Jewish social work to gather regularly to discuss communal problems; it has brought the scientific developments in general social work to the members; and it 1ms served to stiniu late the development of a number of new organizations which arc national in cha/- acter.

Following the religious servic s, Dr. Lowenstein will speak in memory if Miss Rose Sommerfield. Samuel l. Goldsmith, executive director of the B • reau of Jewish Social Research, will pa] tribute to the memory of Dr. Juliu' Druclisle. Dr. Boris D. Bogen, gen¬ eral secretary of the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith and one of thc deans of Jewish social service in America, will pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Charles I). Spivak; and Dr. M. Olgin will speak in memory of Dr. Frank F. Rosenblatt.
Kurt Peiser, superintendent of thc United Jewish Agencies of Cincinnati, wilt preside at the Thursday morning session, which will be devoted to faniily and child care problems. A native of Palestine, he received his early educa¬ tion in the Holy Land and later in thc universities of Paris and Uerlin. He is at the present time editor of the Doar Ilayoam, the Hebrew daily paper of Jcriisaleni, and is also the editor of the Palestine Weekly, an English paper.
During the World War, Mr. Ben Avi was twice senteticed to jail for a period of several months for having conducted pro-allied political activities in Palestine and was later condeniued to death but managed to escape a few hours before the time set for the execution. Mr. Ben .\vi came tu Anierica then in the interest of the Zionist movement and was invited to address thc Conference of Minority Rights held in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, under the leadership of l*reb:deiit Maszaryk of Czecho Slo¬ vakia, The following year, Mr. Ben Avi accompanfed the Zionist delegation to thc Peace Conference in Versailles. In Palestine ht^ Is an active niember of the Jewish Assembly and has participated iu every enterprise for the establishineiit of the Jewish Homeland.
Mr. Ben Avi's latest endeavor is thc Latuii^ntion of the Hebrew alphabet, in which work he is supported by Vladimir Jabotinsky ami the Hebrew poet, Jacob Cohen. At the present time, he is de- viitlng his time to the interest of the Bnai Benjamin and is cooperating witli the Zionist Organization in its work. A powerful orator, in Knglish and Uobrew, u brilljaHt publicist, Mr. Ben .Avi has made a profound Impression on the nu¬ merous audiences which he has addressed in America.
