"Zionismy" lie saidj "is thc Jewish na¬ tional wJIl-to-livc and to achieve. It is a protest against. disintegration and; as¬ similation. It admonislies the Jews of the world with thc spirit of noblcfsc oblige. A Representative Crowd
The crowd, which packed the audi¬ torium of the Temple, was a most repre¬ sentative :one' and its highest expecta¬ tions were fulfilled by the distinguished and scholarly speaker of the evening. It was the first time in the history of the local Jewish community that a meet¬ ing under Zionist auspices was hckl in tfie local, refonn Temple. It was also the first time in the history of Tem¬ ple Israel that a Jewish flag was on thc rostrum, together with an American flag.

"'Curing the course of hrs address Rabbi Silver brought home to Ws auditors that Zionism' is absolutely compatible .with the highest type of Americanism. In fact, it fosters within.our hearts and souls just those virtues which rtiake for good cit¬ izenship and renders its devotees and ad¬ herents more capable and more loyal in their devotion tp American ideals. More¬ over, he continued, it will briiig new life into;every Jewish community where its spirit is nurtured, and where its appeal is answered in a practical way. ' He"" cx- ¦plained that in his .travels in various sec¬ tions of the United States he noted with :much gratification that wherever Zionist sentiment is strong and good Zionist work is being done, fliere also is Judaism in general strong and virile and aflame with a divine fire .that animates everyone who comes under its beneficent influence. Remarkable Progress
A goodly portion of Rabbi Silver'? address dedlt with (he remarkable prog¬ ress the Jewish pepple have made in re¬ habilitating the ancient Jewish Home¬ land.
"if you will visit this beautiful land iu the, heart of Asia Minor," declared the Rabbi, "you will be astonished at its re¬ markable transformation. In the last 12 years, oyer sixty million dollars have been invited in the Holy Land. Thousand.'! of acres of land,,heretofore neglected and unproductive, have been reclaimed. Swamps have heert drained, trees and other plants have been planted. In short, the country is being, rejuvenated. Ii( every respect it is cjiperieiiicing a renais¬ sance."
The speaker then wetit on to prove that "Zionism is. no longer a glaring, plati¬ tudinous generality." , He reiterated what had already been said here regarding this matter by another Zionist speaker, de- clariilg emphatically that "Zionism today is a blazing, throbbing reality. Its benef¬ icent and healing activities in Palestine have already been instrumental in re¬ viving the classical Hebrew tongue pnd the ancient Hebraic culture."
