Chabad to present *Let There Be Light9

Chabad of Central Ohio will
present an evening of Chanukah celebration, "Let There
Be Light," in downtown Columbus on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
The festivities will begin with
the lighting of "The Menorah"
in front of the State House at
5:30 p.m. The annual ceremo-,
ny will be attended by community leaders and dignitaries.
Following the menorah lighting, all participants are invited
to a Latke Supper at the Gal-
breath Pavilion. There is no
charge for the meal, but there
will be a pushka (charity box)
available to help defray the

The City Center amphitheater will be the site ofthe third
annual "Evening of Jewish
Music and Song," beginning
at 7 p.m. The community is
invited to attend.

House, at OSU, and the Chabad Torah Center, at 2942 E.

quality of Jewish life in central
Ohio, according to Rabbi
Chaim Capland. This is done
by providing educational and
cultural activities that heighten
Jewish identity and pride, he

noted, "This holiday commemorates our ancestors'
struggle and sacrifice for religious freedom. Now that we
are so fortunate to have that

According to Rabbi Cap-
land, "We live in an environment that constantly, bom- ,.
bards us with messages inconsistent with Jewish values. It is
important for us, and our children, to express our Jewish-
hess in a way that will contribute to our own spiritual well-
being as well as make our
community a better place to
live. By having a public menorah or Jewish music at the City
Center, we are fulfilling our
Divine charge of being 'a light
unto the nations,'"
The Chanukah event is be-
freedom, it is our responsibility to appreciate it and take
advantage of it. We encourage
all members of the community
to come together and celebrate,
regardless of background or affiliation."
