A large committee composed of the Board members and other active workers is now engaged in securing $i).00 pledges for this event. ICvery one of you has hccn, or will bo called u|)oii for your pledge-^how many OE you will respond? There are at least 1000.Jewish women in Columbus. Our goal is not less than yO(t; if possible, -100 pledges. Arc there not '100 Jewi.sh women, in Columbus who have the cause of Palestine, of a Jewish Homeland, enough at heart to give five dollars towards it? Some have responded no!>!y, have willingly and gladly made tlieir pledge; most of them at a sacri¬ fice. But what about the rest? Some of you will say $5.00 is too much to spend all at once for such an affair. But do you reali^te that this is- the one big affair which Hadassah sponsors? Other organizations hold numerous par- tic.*;, dances, suppers at fi-equeiit intervals, and in the course of one year, many times five dollars will he spent by a single' family. If you help the I-Jadassah Doiwr Dinner to be a success by giving in a lump .sum, our quotas can be ea.^iily filled and we shall not have to approach the public again. Some say wc have' other obligations here and abroad. It is true, charity be¬ gins at boiliCi but is not Palestine our I-Ionielaiid?—the land to which stricken Jews froih all over Europe' are fleeing— and wc arc the guilty ones if Palestine cannot receive them in greater numbers! Tf you have dear ones in Europe to help, the-bett way to help them is by giving to Palestine, thereby providing for them an avenue of escape from the slow physi¬ cal and 'spiritual death' which is over¬ taking them. Some say we are not interested in Palestine. But every Jewish woman should support Hadassah for. the noble, self-sacrificing Work slic is doing.- Ha¬ dassah offers healing to the sick and afflicted; Hadassah offers education to mothers so that their babies may come into this world and grow up lo be healthy and happy, free from trachoma, free from malaria, free from numerous other sick¬ nesses which previously infested the land. Hadassah offers instruction to school girls, so that their homes-may lie clean aiid sanitary, their food properly balanced and attractively prepared. Hadassah wel¬ comes with open arms the German refu¬ gees, the weary harassed wanderers from other lands, giving tlicm a liomc at last, peaceful., and free from trouble. Hada,s- sah is the inother of all Palestine to whom each can turn in time of pain and need and can find comfort. Is five dollars too much to give for Hadassah? Each one of us should feel it a privilege to be a part of this thrilling work and therefore I urge you, even if you must sacrifice to do it, give your pledge and keep your pledge! Sincerely and with Zion's greetings, Manilla R. Abramson, President. ROTHSCHILD'S SONS SAY KADDISH TWICE DAILY PARIS (WNS)--CarryinK on the !"iO-ycar-old Rothschild tradition of Or¬ thodoxy, Baron Maurice and James de Rothschild, the two sons, of the late Baron I'-dmond de Rothschild, are saying kaddish twice daily in the Paris home of the Rothschild family. Lady Astor Urges Jews to Take All Children Out of Germany LONDON (WNS)—"If I were a Jew I would get c\ery child out of Germany, but grbwn-tips must stay to endeavor to pull the country around," Lady Astor, American-born peeress and member of Parliament, declared in aji address be¬ fore tbe women's division of the Ger- man-Jtwish relief fund. Kittcrly attack¬ ing Nazi iiersecution of Jewish children, Lady Astor said, "Literally, I cannot read wdwt is happening to Jewish chil¬ dren in Germany without seeing red. I 'do not want to say a word against Ger¬ many, but I'm sore. We do not want" to hate, If Germany is hating Jews she is bound to suffer, because hate is a poison." Five hundred women each paid $25 a plate at the luncheon meeting to hear Lady Astor. INFANTS' HOME OF OHIO DeMolay Chapter Will Head Next Agudath Achim Open Forum - Those who attended the last Friday evening service held at the Congregation Agudath Achim spent a most cnjoyabU' timt'. Rabbi Hirschsprung's treatment of the subject, "The Jewish Ideal of Mar¬ riage," was thoroughly iutcUigcnt, novel and inspiring. He traced with consuni-' mate skill \\\\s institution from its in¬ ception to inoderii times' with especial emphasis upon the nobility of the Jewish conception. The i resulting dLscusiiion that ensued and the questions that were pre¬ cipitated were fine evidence of the sig¬ nificance of his message. After having tasted of the intellectual fare, with the cooperation of the Agudath Achim Sisterhood, tea and cake were served in the vestry rooms to complete the evening's program. Mr. Max L Ziskind, chairman, pre¬ dicted another stimulating and entertain¬ ing evening for next Friday, November i?;l, when the Hirsch Kobacker DeMolay Chapter takes over the pulpit. M«iuklman, 810 Witgcr street, has been appointed chair¬ man on arrangements. Watch the Chron¬ icle for further details. At present time, and during the coming year, we arc and will reap the harvest from seeds sown during the depression years.. Each month, bring.'i a heavier de¬ mand iipon the different agencies for wel¬ fare aid; services that are not supplied hy any other relief means. This demand is being felt by the clinics, the settlement houses, the hospitals participating in the Community Fund and the District Nurs ing association. In fact, all-member agen¬ cies of the Community Fund report a de¬ cided inct'casc in the demand upon their services. Austin McElroy, general chairman of the campaign goal committee, and E. P. Leonard,, vice chairman, present some startling facts in relation to the increase iii welfare work for Franklin county and Columbus, and the necessity for its con¬ tinuance on a still larger scale, a work. that can only be. performed through the private agencies of the Community Fund. "During H)-!) the records of the court of domestic relations of Franklin county lists 3510 cases of Juvenile delinquency.. This increased during the current year to 5200 cases. The delinquent, child is a problein of practically every agency of the Community Fund. It is the endeavor of these agencies to build ,uiKler-privi- Icged children into goad citizens, men and wonien who will in the future be a credit to their community," he declared. "Ill these cases appearing before the court 55.2 per cent were for delinquent acts by boys and 30.2 per cent sex acts upon the part of girls, The more serious cases arc on the increase in both classes, and it is time for us to stop and think of the coniinunity future, the future of these boys and girls.. The right, chance in life, or tbe right assistance, will make of a Ixjy or girl the ri^ht sort of citizen, a credit to the community," he declared. In ]f)2n the average age of girls who were taken in at the three maternity homes participating in the Community Fund, was 18 years. This has dropped to 13.8 years, during the current year, an alarming, conditioir, according to E. P. Leonard, vice chaim^an of the cau^paign goal committee. "For the year l!)2y adult contribution to delihciuency iminbercd HSo cases, birt during the first six months of 1934 this number increased to 10.11," Leonard pointed out. One of the biggeSt problems now con¬ fronting the agencies of the Community Fund is the hospitalization of the indi¬ gent sick. "The average number of free days of hospital care required and fur¬ nished during the six years prior to 103-1 was 130,000. The number of free days care possible from hos[ntals and the Community Fund during the current years is 00,000 days and if the fund is not successful, this will be cut to not more than ,-10,000 during 1033. "This drop in the number of free hos¬ pital days may confuse soiiie, but I wish to point out that thq drop is due to the kick of funds and the lack of pay patients iu Columlius hospitals. There is another significant feature. If the number of pay patients drop it means that a certain per centagc of these patients will and inust seek aid through the Community Fund agencies," Leonard declared. The District Nursing association of Columbus has worked tirelessly in per¬ forming the innumerable welfare duties that confront its staff of 43 nurses. The a.^sociation is iiupported partially by the Community Fund, the city l>aytng ap¬ proximately $28,000 yearly for the over- liead and the Community Fund supplying llic major portion of funds through whicli its inestimable services are rendered. Comparative figures for a five year pe¬ riod give an idea of how general welfare work has increased in the county and city. During the first nine months of 1020 the association's nursing staff made 58,- 513 calls. This increased almost 100 per cent ill, 1034, when during the first nine months of this year the staff of nurses made 09,Gk^ ^^^tls For*J'^ '^ nionths end ing Oct. /| io;u fhi*; 'small staff *1 Cotnnmnity Fund support the number of, nurses would he reduced from 43 to ap¬ proximately bS nurse.i;, with a tremendous increase in tlisease aild deaths, which in the end would cost tbe city and public more than if this noble service was main¬ tained," General Chairman McElroy pointed out. , Schonthal Center Numbered among the* participating agencies of the Community Fund arc the Hcniitne Schonthal, Center and the Jew¬ ish Welfare Federation, hutli located at ri-Tj F,ast Rich street. The wr>rk of tliese two organizations is allied with that of all the other participating agencies of the . Community Fund. During the year end¬ ing Oct. 1, 1034. "the Schoiithal center contacted more thai^ 7fi3 boys and girls* and men and women. The number of chil¬ dren reached through playground activi¬ ties was 200; "gym" classes, 300; boy.^ registered in other athletic activities, 100, and the total number reached through , vtcrcatioiia! activities' mounted to GOO. The activities of this organization were not .confined .solely to boys. During this period the luimber of girls and. women reached througii educational classes was 123 and the number of girls served througii character birilding activities, 18L Jewish Welfare Fiederation The Jewish Welfare Federation has been carrying on its work in Columbus for the past.- 20 years, having been estab¬ lished in 1003. The^'organization is pay- ¦ ing rent for 23 aged persons and is pro¬ viding major relief for 100 families. Dur¬ ing tho year ending Oct. 1 they have granted relief to or helped 221. Free nursing calls were made in 3C cases and free clinical care given to 42 cases. The organization referred 54 cases to city doctors for free treatment. In its health service the Jewish Welfare Federation ¦ has reached 151' persons. "Tlie last severiil years has seen a tre¬ mendous increase in the work of all the agencies of the Community Fiind," Pres¬ ton Davis, president of the organization declared. "To make the task of these agencies more herculean there has been a decrease in funds to carry on welfare work. It is the responsibility of every able-bodied person in Franklin county and Columbus, who is financially able, to see that .the coming fund drive is a suc¬ cess. There arc thousands of persons in Franklin county of all races, colors and creeds, who arc in unfortunate circum¬ stances, who are ailing in body, look to .some oiie or other of the agencies of the fund to help them, to bring them back as a useful unit in our comniunity scheme. "Those of us who are more fortunate also owe it to the more than 3000 persons who have volunteered their efforts in the twelfth annual fund, drive of the organi¬ zation to make it a success. They are sacrificing their time and their money. Tliey are giving widiout stint an en¬ thusiasm and effort toward a purpose which no one can deny is necessary to- \vard the rehabilitation of the unfortu¬ nates of our community," the president of the fund concluded. FRED LAZARUS APPEALS TO COLUMBUS JEWRY Tbe appetil of the Community Fund will, I am sure, find a generous response among all people of the city of Coluinbus and. particularly, among our Jejvish groups. There is plenty of misery about us. So much can be done in a careful organized way to alleviate it and to make people's lives happier. So much needs to be done beyond giving fowl, shelter and clothing, which the govern¬ ment assumes as its responsitylft'y! Iil the great rush to give itteded relief to so many thou^jands. ;^aiiy of those things have been ov^^i^oked which in years past we have regarded as being necessary for proper ^¦fving. These arc. to the extent of tlvC-ir budget, being done by the forty- ^^^jCc agencies^ of the Community Fund. 5Yie job can only-be-done if the quota Is ' ached ami. therefore, the chest goal '1. 1034, this'5"^;.^^^"/.Ui,ouldberealiz<^. nurses mifde 135,003 calls. fvV'te^'^-nhe | _Fked Lazarus, Jr.

f)cnr I'ricmls: The fifth annual Donor Dinner sponsored by Columbus Chapter of Hadassah will'be held Sunday eve¬ ning, December !).

DeMolay Chapter Will Head
Next Agudath Achim
Open Forum
- Those who attended the last Friday evening service held at the Congregation Agudath Achim spent a most cnjoyabU' timt'.
Everyone is urged to attend.
