NUREMBERG .(WNS) — The last vestiges of .the cmanciiration- which freed the, Jews from the ghetto disappeared in Germany when a cowed and submissive Reichstag unanimously voted a series of "Jew laws" which.brand the Jews of Ger- ma'ny as an inferior people and reduce them to a status of political, economic and social. slavery.', In the most sweep¬ ing anti-Semitic.measures adopted since the Nazi regime came into power two and a half years ago, the Reichstag, nieeting in, the capital of Jews-baiting, completely vindicated the violent .policy of Julius Streicher and the extremist wing of the party by bringing to realiza¬ tion virtually, the entire anti-Jewish phase pi the Nazi, party program. The new laws, which become effective January 1, provide"; (1) Marriages between Jews and German citizens are forbidden; (2) extra-marital relations between Jews, and Germans are prohibited; (3) Jews are not. permitted to employ in. their house-: holds.German servants under the age of '^5; (4) Jews are forbidden to fly the swastika, but hiay display the Zionist blue and white flag; (6). Jews are de¬ prived oi German citizenship which is to be accorded only to those of German blood, those maritally related to Germans or those who by their conduct earn the right to the honor of citizenship; (C) the swastika, which , General Goering Grilled the "anti-Jewish symbol of the world" is proclaimed as the sole and offi-, cial flag of the Reich. These laws vvere announced in a brief but fiery speech which Hitler delivered before the Reichstag. . In the course bf bis address he plainly admitted that the Reichstag was called, to meet in,Nureni- bergbecaiuse "it is intimately connected" with the "Jew laws",.denounced the Birodsky decision^ and warned that if the 'new laws did not put, th6 Jews in their place othcl" measures would be "taken. "The insult to'the German flag, in: the United : States, for : which ,the United States apologized in dignified form, shows how far the international Jewish agitation has progressed," he said, "It is an illustration of the feeling of Jewry, eyien in an official capacity toward Ger- niany, and an effective.confirmation of the Holiday Services at Agudath Achim Cong. Hebrew Courses to be Given at New York University NEW YORK (WNS)—Courses in the study of Hebrew language and literature open to, all adults will be given by. the division of general education of New Vork University beginning with this stimeater. Abraham L Katsh, graduate of the Vilna Hebrew College, will be the instructor. The Manhattan Chapter of Avukah i^ providing three scholarships for these courses to students regularly matriculated at the Washington Square College of N. Y, U. correction of our National Socialist legr islation which from the begitinirig aims at preventing once for all similar inci¬ dents. Should there be necessary, how¬ ever, further emphasis of this in our con¬ ception; then it is amply explained by thc renewed boycott of Jews starting against Germany. The German people have ber come impatient because German Jewry, encouraged by international propaganda, believed it could, stage similar protests in Germany. . This international unrest .in the world,, unfortunately seems to have a>vakened a. conception among Jewry in Germany that now perhaps the time has come to coi^- front Jewish interests .with Gernian na¬ tional interests. Serious complaints have been launched from numerous sides about the. provoking behavior of individual members of, this case, So in the remark¬ able increase of and conforriiity in the complaints a certain plan of action be¬ came apparent. .This conduct climaxed demonstratibns-which occurred in a Ber-; iin movie house against a harmless', foreign, film through which, .however, : Jewish : circles believed themselves' hurt. In order to reach an amiqable relation: ', between.the German people arid;tlie Jews,, thc gbvernment Will, try to bring about legal regulation. The law, wliich will be-read by, Goering, constitutes, howrever, oiily an attempt at legal.regulation. How¬ ever," should, this not work we wiir have , to take it up orice again. German natioriy istands , behind all three laws, . I .request you en¬ dorse these laws," Roger Babson Warns American Jews to Slow Up Commercial Activities : NEW YORK (WNS)"A warning to the Jevys of America to;slow down the pace of their commercial activity because "it is often far wiser .to drop out of a picture temporarily than to stir up un- nccessary.animosity" is sounded by Roger Babson, nationally known economist and financial adviser^ in a special letter mailed out to his clients on August 26th, Ad¬ mitting that his editorial board had urged him not to publisti his. letter because ."it iTiight sti,r up a hornets'-nest among our Jewish clients" arid "n>ight cost us: sub¬ scriptions" although "personally webeliev.e in everything you have said," Mr. Babson prefaces his letter with a denial of in¬ tolerance, a review of ..the discussion at thc recent Williamstown Institute of Human Relations and tx denunciation, of the treatment of Jews in. Germany as "in- hufnan, unjust and, certainly urichristian" if "these reports are true." . He then goes on to say that "fear and hate remain great underlying forces" that "in a few months a demagogue can de¬ stroy what constructive statesmen have been years in creating," that "movements against a race are contagious" and that although he has "enough confidence'in the character of the American nation to feel sure it is civilized" it is "not beyond imagination to picture some cheap politi¬ cian popping up and trying to arouse the rabble *to throw the Jews out of Amer¬ ica'." Emphasizing that "it is important for members of every race to deliberately guard against what mighty arouse, ani¬ mosities" arid praising "the energy, in^ ' gcnuity and perseverance . of tfie He¬ brews", and their "Willingness to work harder and make greater sacrifices," Mr. Babson asserts that "there are iridividuals of your race—and of my, own, the Yan- Ikees^wlio have resorted to sharp and unfair business practices, which the real body of our peoples do not approve. Was it not the dishonesty and hoggishness pi I a small minority of the Jews in Germany that gave ^'our foes a handle for attack , ahd brougiit persecution to so mkny of your race?" ¦ . Warning that "any group which is suc-r cessfui ultimately becomes a target for persecution'' and that "the same reaction,, from which the banks and utilities are now suffering could;be switched against the Jews," Mr. Babson. said, "I hope, therefore, that the ovetwhelriiing numbers of you who stand for what is right and , best will make a resolute effort.to over- . cpme anything that, might footer animosi- 1 ties. Anybody .is giving you bad, advice who says that true power is. got,by fur¬ ther 'edging in' on Wall Street or Main Street or even in Washington, until the" world once niore comes to its senses..^ ¦ It is" often wiser, far wiser to drop-out of a picture temporarily rather than to stir * up unnecessary animosity. True power is not got by buying up real estate, corpora¬ tions and organizations. In aiiy social up¬ heaval, showy possessions are liabilities rather than assets. There are times when a.cyclone cellar is safer than a castlel' The real protection is not high-sounding office and financial pomp. It is good¬ will, 'Better have grass grow under your feet than have it grow over, your head/". The letter is concluded with an appeat to "concentrate on developing better hu¬ man, relations between ourselves and our fellow citizens" and to "back Up the! spirit and ideals typified by this Wil-. liamstown confereuce," Allan Tarshish in Fremont Allan Tarshish will conduct'the High Holy Day services for Fremont, Ohio, Jewry, according to an invitation ex^ tended him this week,: This is the ninth consecutive year that Mr. Tarshish has officiated for the Holy days, a record tinprecedente'd in the hisw. tory of small Jewish communities in this country, especially froni the standpoint of a layman rabbi. y'- •a-;- LAST CALL!
