A Jewish journalist ventured into coivVcrsatlon of all groups at once.
Pelley's den of nnti-Semitism in Seattle, joined'the Silver Shirts and obtained thc first really aiitlientic information on the notorious organ¬ ization. His story will be published through the Seven, Arts Feature Syndicate excluaivcly in The Ohio Jewish Chronicle and affiliated Seven Arts publications. This is the first of three articles^—The Editor.
I first went to the Christian Party headquarters at 3005 Arcade Buildin;,'. Scattlcj on June 1st, prompted by curi¬ osity: My features are of such type that 1 can he taken for any nationality^ and I .wore a button in my lapel indi¬ cating that r bad been honorably dis¬ charged from the United States \iarint> Corps. This button was noticed by W. W. McDonald, Christian Partj; or¬ ganizer in Seattle, who at once drew nie into conversation regarding the party and its aims. He took my name (assumed, of course) and address and gave me a supply of "literature," tell' ing me to come back after Thad,read it.
Party is anxious to induct ex-service men into its ranks.
Amoiig the" literature I was given was one circular -which explained at length thc old principled df American¬ ism, dwelling on the fact that when the internal peace of any locality was threatened alL patriots organized them¬ selves intp bands of vigilantes in order that thcy might cope with the situa¬ tion. Thc circular further explained that today America is threatened by the Jewish bankers and Communists, and Called upon all good Americans to organize themselves into, "Councils, of Safety" so that this threat to our coun¬ try might l?e eradicated. This deter¬ mined me to find out if; a Council of Safety Had been. organized, in Seattle, and to join it if it were possible to do so.
On my next trip .to the party office, on Juiie 8th, McDonald Krectcd me cordially. This'time a wpmiari als^ was present; she i^as introduced to me as a Mr^. Hoffman. Thi.s ivoihan immediately impressed mc as being dangerous. ¦ She, was sharp-eyed, and looked me over closely from Head to foot before acknowledging the intro¬ duction. , Her voice was cold and had a very much affected Boston inflection. All the time I was at the office she continued to watch me closely.
When I asked about the Council of Safety McDonald was eager to explain it tp me. "Yes," he said, "we're or¬ ganizing theni here. Right now. we're lyorking in the West Seattle territory. We've only got two requirements'for membership, and you can fit both of those." "What are they?" I questioned. "Well, you have to be a, good Protestant, and a patriot. Wc don't .ivant no Roman Pdpe-loyers. ¦ Only good. Christian, God-fearing ."Vmeri- cans. There's gonna be a meeting day after, tomorrow in, West Seattle. Think you can make it?"
'I'd certainly like to," I replied. 'O. K.," he answered, signing a card and handing it to mc, "the address is here. You just shoiv this to the fellow at the.door and he'll let you in. You come thpre and ypti'll find out \vhat the Jews are trying to do to us.'' Of the Council of Safety meetings little need be said. , At that time they were held at Townsend Hall, ^823 Cal¬ ifornia Avenue, in West Seattle; On Wednesday, June 10th, there were twelve persons present besides McDon¬ ald, Mrs. Hoffman and myself. How¬ ever, I was given tp understand that this group was only a nucleus about which -would be formed an organiza¬ tion "hundreds strong." The meeting was taken up by reports from McDon¬ ald and Afrs. Hoff'man concerning the nefarious 'activities of .^ Jews in the United States and by laudatory expost^ tions of Pelley's plan of government, the Christian Commonwealth. Extracts were read from Pelley's Weekly, pre suinably because the majority of tht members find reading for themselves a difficult job.
The audience tliat evening was com¬ posed of the most ignorant class of laborers^-niostly low-i»aid mill hands, longshoremen and dockworkers. Every time some derogatory mention was niade of Jews or Communists they ap¬ plauded dutifully. Mrs. Hoffman, when not speaking, was watching the face of each member. When Ihc meeting was over, aild the audience gathered into groups of two or three, she seemd to bustle ground eavesdropping on the
The Only surprising thing about the party unit here— and I understand .that this applies also to other units in the rest of the country—is where its money comes from. I was given to understand that "unlimited" funds were available, but the source of these funds was not explained to me. The only known sources of income are from thc.sale of literature and voluntary contributions from members. '¦ The lit¬ erature, which includes a newly re¬ hashed version of the- Protocols oJ Zion, another pamphlet just as absurd called'the "Hidden,Empire,'.' and Pel- ley's Weekly, a hopeless, little propa¬ ganda sheet, nets anywhere from twenty-five to fifty cent."? a week in sales, and members' coiitributions bring cveil less. Where, then, does the money come from? Wlien that question is answered the reason for the Christian Party will be explained. ;
I would like to give an idea of, the propaganda being spread by the Chris¬ tian Party. In their pamphlet "The rialcrTrrneT to'me cTiristlan H'''<!^'! Empire" it is stated that Jewry

consists of an international, world wide organization ruled by a secret and uncrowned king, called, "Akha pliam." Akha Dham is assisted in his rule, of the world by. a ."prince- .sponsior" in the Western hemisphere,' who is . nohe other than Bernard Baruch. Mr. Baruch, in tbrn, is tlie head of the "seven times seven" organ¬ ization, in whicli tlic officers have mys¬ terious titles such as ^'auditors," "scrivr eners," "mutes," etc.. As an example,- directly responsible to Mr. Baruch arc seven auditors.' Responsible to each auditor are seven scriveners, and re¬ sponsible to each scrivener are sciren iputcs. This provides - the, powerful, and secret prgamzation wherein ,each person knows all of those under; him and only a single one directly above him, and whereby Jewry rules the Western Llemisphere. ; The black fly-leaf of one edition of "'Tiie Hidden Empire" contain^ small'square of green paper glued over the top of the page. Upon steaming this off one finds undei-neath what is a direct incitement to Violence: This little paragraph states that all Jiews are enemies and traitors, and tliat any Gentile who deals ^with- a Jew patronizes a Jewish-owned business is, also a traitor.. It ends with the warn¬ ing that all Jews and "Jew-lovers,' meaning those who deal with Jews, arc soon to be exterminated. , Presumably this paragraph was deleted in order that, the pamphlet could safely.be sent through the mails. The Christian Party is anxious to avoid trouble with the Federal Government.
Pelley's Weekly is a four-page tab¬ loid-size sheet containing reports from various sections .of the country on the havoc wrought by Jews. A regular

One typical issue of this paper car¬ ried a two-cdlumh lead article entitled "Have You Become Judaized?" The text of this article :was that Gentiles may live peacefully in any neighbo'r- hoodj and then disaster moves tn in the form of a Jewish family. Evidences of. prosperity arc soon shown by the Jews. They have a hew automobile, their house is painted and garden im¬ proved, and the ladies of the family wear fur coats. The Gentil^ women of the neighborhood sec this and liag their husbands for these things. Thc husbands cannot afford these luxuries for their families, but get them to placate; their wives, and as a resultarc cither forced into bankruptcy or into illegal practices, and are sent to prison. Consequently, because of thc presence of one Jewish family, the entire neighborhood is "Judaized" and ruined.
Another news item contained a de¬ scription of a conversation.of a group of children overljeard in an Eastern city, One Jewish child called the others "dirty little Christians" and told them that all Christians would soon be eating scraps from Jewish celhrs.
The party is continually circulatuig propaganda dodgers that all dwell on the same theme, to wit, thc JeWs. Jews are blamed for the depression, for the Communist government in Russia, and even for the dust storms and drought in the Midwestern United States 1 Thi last seems entirely too fantastic, but it is nevertheless true.
