At Temple Tuesday
TO ADDRESS HILLEL
ALUMNI DINNER
TUESDAY EVE.
HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (WNS) —Nazi sympathi/ers who broke into thc office of thc Hollywood Anti- Nazi League this week, stole about 510 and ramsacked files of the or¬ ganization, but failed to obtain evi¬ dence of Nazi activities in Los Angeles. The burglary, according to Miss Elaine Hellinger, executive secretary of the League, was an "at¬ tempt to spike the guns of the League in it's effort to expose thc subver¬ sive activities being carried on by local fascists." Evidence sought by thc burglars, Miss Hellinger said, in¬ cluded photographs taken here of uniformed men drilling with rifles, goose-stepping behind thc swastika- crossed Nazi flag, and letters proving how 3,000,000 copies of anti-Jewish and imti-Catholic pamphlets were smuggled across the Mexican border in automobile , trucks. Other docu¬ ments, she said, indicate 10,000 armed Nazis arc conducting regular military drills in Los Angeles and Hollywood. "Such valuable documents," she de¬ clared, "are not kept in an unpro¬ tected office file. The material is in a safe deposit vault, and will be available when desired."
The burglary was discovered by Wallin Murray, advertising manager of "News of the World," new League publication, when he arrived at work Tuesday morning. Files and papers were strewn about the room and the office generally was in a topsy-turvey condition. The missing $10 was taken from a petty cash drawer, and it was found' the mem¬ bership records had been pried into. No fingerprints were left, according to police detectives G. P. Gannon and G. H. Shelton, of the Hollywood station. The marauders, they said, used a pass key or strip of thin metal to force the lock.
Thc League recently launched a call for a national congress on the menace of Nazism, to be held during June at some central point in the United States, according to Herbert Biberman, of the organization's executive board. Object of the con¬ ference will be two-fold: First, to make a federal investigation of Nazi activity necessary by bringing the weight of concentrated public opinion and pressure to bear in this direction; Second, to form a focal point or co¬ ordinating center for anti-Nazi 'ac- tivhy, thus increasing its effective' ness.
Members and friends of Hadassah are invited to attend its annual Linen Shower which this year is being held in conjunction with the regular meet¬ ing next Tuesday, 2 P. M., at thc Bry¬ den Rd. Temple.
The guest speaker for this occasion will be Rabbi Leon Feuer, spiritual leader of the Collingwood Avenue Temple, Toledo. Rabbi Feuer has chosen for his- subject "Zionism After Forty Years," an address which is bound to be of vital interest to all those concdrned with thc constructive work in Palestine. The Rabbi is pres¬ ident of the Toledo Zionist district and is a member of the National Ad¬ ministrative Committee of that organ¬ ization. He was ordained as Rabbi at Hebrew Union College of Cincinnati in 1927, Since then and up to Janu¬ ary, 1935, he was Minister of Re¬ ligious Education at the Temple in Cleveland.
On the musical program for tliis event will be two outstanding pupils of Jorg Fasting School of the Dance, young Miss Bernice Solove, tap dancer, and Mary Louise Herrcl, ballet dancer. Both girls are well known in this community for their un¬ usual talent, having appeared on nu¬ merous occasions before local organ¬ izations. Bernice will also give sev¬ eral vocal selections in her inimitable manner and will be accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Milton Goodman. A tea social will conclude the after- noon^'s program.
The committee in charge of the ar¬ rangements fos this event are the fol¬ lowing: Mrs. Harry Freidenbcrg, co- chairman, Mesdames B. W. Abram¬ son, J. K. Bornstein, B. Feitlinger, Sam Goldman^ J. Krakowitz, M. Krakoff, B. F. Levinson, H, Mellman, L. Nachman, M. Siegel, Isadore Top¬ per, Sig Weisskerz, B. G. Yalman, Milton Farber and Milton Goodman.

Rabbi Felix A. Levy
From the many reservations- already received, indications point to an un¬ usually large turnout- for thc annual Hillel Aluinui' Dinner, to he held next Tuesday evening, April 20, 0:30 o'clock, at the Fort Hayes Hotel. Alumni of Ohio State University, members of their families, and friends interested in the work of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation are invited to attend.

NEW YORK (WNS)—Asserting that "racial prejudice and anti- minority propaganda are always fore¬ runners of dictatorships," Dr, Stanley High, president of the Good Neigh¬ bor League outlined today the plan of his organization to undertake a fact-finding program ou which to base "an intelligent campaign of tol¬ erance designed to enlist Americans in an ofTensive on behalf of funda¬ mental Americanism."
Thc Good Neighbor League which has organizations in some twenty-five states will serve as the agency through which this study will be un¬ dertaken. "We have secured, how¬ ever, thc cooperation and active as¬ sistance of a number of organizations which are in a position to help us get at the facts," Dr. High said. "The direct work will be under the super¬ vision of Dr. Howard LeSourd> Dean of the Graduate School of Bos¬ ton University, and a staflr of experts associated with him. It will be the purpose of our study to get all thc available facts on the extent, the na¬ ture and the implications of racial intolerance in this country, with par¬ ticular reference to anti-Scmitism. It is a remarkable fact that, with so much said in this field, no such in¬ clusive study has ever been under¬ taken.

"The work of the Columbus He¬ brew School goes ,on daily with a maximum amount of efficiency. The teachers are experts in their calling, and the children eagerly learn the wise and holy teachings of Israel," is the report of Rabbi Mordecai Hirsch¬ sprung, chairman Board of Educaton. The work, he says, varies from the Hebrew alphabet taught in the begin¬ ners class to the studies of the Bible, Hebrew grammar, history, and other subjects taught in the higher grades. The class which is to be graduated on April 25th comprises thirteen stu¬ dents who have attended the school for a period of five years, have com¬ pleted the elementary course consist¬ ing of the above mentioned subjects, have a fair elementary knowledge of conversational Hebrew, and also have the ability to do composition work in original HeVew.
"If it were not for the lack of funds," the Rabbi declared, "the work of thc school could be widely extended in scope and range, by enlarging the teaching staff, increasing the time schedule, etc. It cannot be denied tha't, like in ever^f institution, there is al¬ ways room for improvement, hut un¬ der the existing circumstances, the achievements have heen remarkable. I'm saying this, because as chairman of the Board of Education I have per¬ sonally examined all the classes re¬ cently in the presence of 'other mem¬ bers of the board, as well as outsiders, and found the children well instructed, and possessing considerable Hebrew learning. Among the outsiders who participated in the examination of the children was Rabbi Wolf Gold, dis¬ tinguished president of the World Mizrachi Organization, and pedagogue and Hebraist of the first order, who .visited the school while in Columbus. Rabbi Gold was warm in his praise of the method employed in teaching, as well as of the children's knowledge.
Since accepting the office of chair¬ man of the Board of Education, Kabbi Hirschsprung has visited the classes several times weekly. Guided by his ten years of experience as supervisor of modern Hebrew schools in other cities, the Rabbi has suggested a num¬ ber of important changes which the faculty has already adopted.
"By the proper support of Colum¬ bus Jewry, tlie Hebrew School can be¬ come a model institution of Jev/ish learning," the Rabbi said.
United Jubilee Affair To

ing through Good Neighbor League units it is our plan to secure the co¬ operation of churches, schools, labor organizations and independent bodies.'* In the course of his interview Dr. High emphasized particularly recent evidences that had come to his atten¬ tion of anti-Semitic propaganda in the current labor situation. "I have seen the proof," he said, "that the racial issue is being injected into the labor situation. Labor, itself, will be the first to repudiate this drive. It is one of our purposes to reveal the facts knowing that once they are re¬ vealed the propagandists and thetr propaganda will be uprooted."
Rabbi James Heller
News of the week! The United Jubilee, noted in the past for the startling novelty of its ventures, has done it again. Not coptent, with bringing to Columbus "Yiddle and His Fiddle," the first all-Yiddish musical talkie in its first showing outside of London, Paris, Ne\n^ York and War¬ saw, the Jubilee committee through the most generous cooperation of Mr. Peppe, has obtained Valley Dale for the added enjoyment of the after theatre crOwd.
And there is no extra charge for this feature. All those holding tick¬ ets for thc Third Annual United Jubilee, the gigantic get-together to be staged at the Hartman Theatre, May 9, will be entitled to dance "under the starb" at the beautiful Sunbury Rd. swing-mart as gUests of thc Jubilee. They, of course, will be dancing for the benefit of the Co- hipibus Hebrew School, to which worthy educational institution the United Jubilee has, for the third consecutive year, dedicated its efforts and proceeds.
Have wc told you that Molly Picon, the dprling of the Yiddish stage, is cast in the role of an itinerant fid¬ dler, who disguises herself as a boy so that she can accompany her cello- playing papa in his travels about the country? The disguise is supposed to keep her safe on the road. But does it?
Reviewing I "Yiddle with His Fid¬ dle," the New York Times says "Miss Picon puts so much infectious gayety not forgetting the proper modicum of sadness, into the action that the result is genuine entertainment."
And from the New York American "Miss Picon adorable . . , she pos¬ sesses a personality as disarming as it is individual. It serves her to the utmost in 'Yiddle with His Fiddle,'" There will be a matinee perform¬ ance at 2:30, while the evening showing begins at 8:00, Both gen¬ eral admission and reserved seat selections are available from the ticket committees of practically every local Jewish organization,
This Third Annual United Jubilee is going to be a momentous occasion in the annals of this community's history. Plan' to participate in this event. It exemplifies not only the best in entertainment but merits the support of every Jew in Columbus.
Lady Rothschild, Widow of
Leopold Rothschild^
Dies at 75
Rabbi James G. Heller, spiritual leader of the Plum St. Temple, Cin¬ cinnati, and one of the leading figures in American Jewry, will be the cliief speaker at the annual dinner meeting of Temple Israel Sunday night (to¬ morrow), at (i:80 o'clock, at the Southern Hotel. Rabbi Heller needs no introduction to Columbus Jewry as he has appeared here on other occa¬ sions, and has always enhghtened his audience with a thought provoking and inspiring message.
Under the capable leadership of Mr. L. J. Goodman, 'president of Temple Israel, and with the assistance of a board of untiring workers, this house of worship on Bryden Rd. has made tremendous strides during the past year. Moreover, it has been most fortunate in having the wise counsel and sympathetic cooperation of faith¬ ful and earnest men and women who go to make up the various active groups of the Temple. Added laurels and even greater prestige for Temple Israel is looked forward to accordilig to the report of President Goodman, to be heai;d at the meeting.
The Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Tem¬ ple Forum and the heads of other ac¬ tive organizations will also have prominent parts on the program. Res¬ ervations can still be made by calling the Temple secretary by Saturday noon, the latest.
LONDON (WNS)—Lady Marie de Rothschild, mother of Anthony Gustave and Lionel Nathan de Roth¬ schild, heads of the Rothschild bank in London, and widow of Leopold de Rothschild, son of the first Orthodox Jew to serve in the House, ^f Com¬ mons, is dead here at the age cf 7o. The former Marie Perugia of Trieste, Italy, she married Leopold de Rothschild in 1881. Among those- who attended the wedding was thc Prince of Wales, later King Edward vn. Lady Rothschild met her fa ture husband at a Rothschild hunting party in London. He was then 36 and a celebrated sportsman and she was 18 and the daughter of a banker. After her marriage she became one of the leaders of London society. .\ skilled horsewoman, she rode until she was past 70. She was privy to highest London society and counted the late King George V and Dowager Queen Mary among her intimate friends. Her youngest son, Evelyn Achille, died fighting with the Jewish Legion in Palestine. The best known of the Rothschild matrons in London, she was president of the Jewish Ladies Clothing Association and the ladies committee of the An¬ glo-Jewish Association. In recogni¬ tion of her many philanthropies she was decorated with the Order of Mercy and the Order of the British Empire. Her son Anthony is treas¬ urer of the Anglo-Jewish Association and president of the United Syna¬ gogue, while her other son, Lionel, heads the Jewish Orphanage and the Jewish Free School.
BERLIN (WNS) —Jewish com¬ munal and organizational life was brought to a virtual standstill thruoUt Germany by an order from the secret police banning for 60 days all JeWish meetings of any kind except syna¬ gogue services. The order was so phrased as to make it possible for gatherings of four or more Jews to come within the meaning of the ban. No official reason was given for the action, which means that all Jewish societies, organizations, clubs and similar groups must cease function¬ ing for two months. Jewish athletic clubs, whose .ictivities had previously been curbed by a similar order, haVe taken cognizance of the new decree by canceling all scheduled meets with Jewish groups abroad, as under tbe new decree they will be unable to practice.
Thc curb on Jewish meetings came as a great surprise to Jewish leaders here. They are completely in the dark as to the reason for it, but now expect it will be followed by other restrictive measures. It is expected that all non-Jewish stores will be forced to make provision for identi- fyiuE themselves as such. The Jew¬ ish community recalled that in recent weeks police officials had visited Jewish sodal functions and noted thc names of all non-Jewish guests. There is widespread fear in Jewish quarters that the new decree will be followed by a renewed anti-Jewish agitation. The threat of imprison¬ ment and confiscation of property hangs over all Jews disobeyiiig thii order. ,
PARIS (WNS) — Following a secret meeting of the leaders of the anti-Nazi German Popular Front at which Heinrich Matm presided, an organized effort to promote , widfc- spread anti-Nazi sentiment in Ger.- many by a concerted campaign of propaganda was launched. The prop¬ aganda will be prepared here and smuggled into Germany. .Th^Jism.- paign was decided upon, it is re^xn-ted, as a result of the successful circula¬ tion in Germany of a manifesto of the new German Freedom Party.

NEW YORK (WNS)—The Nazi regime is doomed, it may fall over¬ night or it may take years, but its end is inevitable, Thomas Maim, German Nobel Prize winner whom the Nazis deprived ot his citizenship, predicted on his arrival here for a series of lectures under the auspices of the American Guild for Gel-man Cultural Freedom. Admitted to the United States on a Czechoslovak pass¬ port as a result of his having heen granted honorary citizenship by a Czech town, the famous novelist said that only "the fear of war and the conviction tliat war for Germany would mean the end of that nation pushes the Gennan people forward.'^ He declared that "the conviction within the people becomes more and more general that the so-called 'suc¬ cesses' of the regime cannot and will not stand a real test, that it is a game of bankruptcy which must lead to a fatal end." Asserting that morally Germany is already finished because the people have no faith in the war¬ like mission -preached by its leaders, he added that the Reich "feels al¬ ready betrayed, it feels humiliated and ashamed before the world."

"Such valuable documents" she de¬ clared, "are not kept in an unpro¬ tected office file. The material is in a safe deposit vault, and will be available when desired." The burglary was discovered by Wallin Murray, advertising manager of "News of the World" new League publication, when he arrived at work Tuesday morning. Rabbi Feuer has chosen for his- subject "Zionism After Forty Years" an address which is bound to be of vital interest to all those concdrned with thc constructive work in Palestine. League Plans Fact-Findiner Drive Against Anti- Semitism He Will Address Annual Dinner Meeting of Temple Sunday Rabbi Felix A. Levy From the many reservations- already received, indications point to an un¬ usually large turnout- for thc annual Hillel Aluinui' Dinner, to he held next Tuesday evening, April 20, 0:30 o'clock, at the Fort Hayes Hotel. Alumni of Ohio State University, members of their families, and friends interested in the work of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation are invited to attend. The affair this year will have the good fortune of having as its speaker NEW YORK (WNS)—Asserting that "racial prejudice and anti- minority propaganda are always fore¬ runners of dictatorships" Dr, Stanley High, president of the Good Neigh¬ bor League outlined today the plan of his organization to undertake a fact-finding program ou which to base "an intelligent campaign of tol¬ erance designed to enlist Americans in an ofTensive on behalf of funda¬ mental Americanism." Thc Good Neighbor League which has organizations in some twenty-five states will serve as the agency through which this study will be un¬ dertaken. "We have secured, how¬ ever, thc cooperation and active as¬ sistance of a number of organizations which are in a position to help us get at the facts" Dr. ^'A number of preliminary confer¬ ences have already been held and a well-considered approach to the prob- Ban on All Jewish Meetings Halts Jewish Conununal Life in Germany Rabbi HirschsprungReports On Progress of Colum¬ bus Hebrew School j All Jewish Concert Will Be Presented at K. of C. (ConAnned on page 2) (Continued on page S) "The work of the Columbus He¬ brew School goes ,on daily with a maximum amount of efficiency. The teachers are experts in their calling, and the children eagerly learn the wise and holy teachings of Israel" is the report of Rabbi Mordecai Hirsch¬ sprung, chairman Board of Educaton. "If it were not for the lack of funds" the Rabbi declared, "the work of thc school could be widely extended in scope and range, by enlarging the teaching staff, increasing the time schedule, etc. "By the proper support of Colum¬ bus Jewry, tlie Hebrew School can be¬ come a model institution of Jev/ish learning" the Rabbi said. United Jubilee Affair To Include Free Admission To Valley Dale ing through Good Neighbor League units it is our plan to secure the co¬ operation of churches, schools, labor organizations and independent bodies.'* In the course of his interview Dr. High emphasized particularly recent evidences that had come to his atten¬ tion of anti-Semitic propaganda in the current labor situation. "I have seen the proof" he said, "that the racial issue is being injected into the labor situation. Labor, itself, will be the first to repudiate this drive. It is one of our purposes to reveal the facts knowing that once they are re¬ vealed the propagandists and thetr propaganda will be uprooted." Rabbi James Heller News of the week! The United Jubilee, noted in the past for the startling novelty of its ventures, has done it again. Not coptent, with bringing to Columbus "Yiddle and His Fiddle" the first all-Yiddish musical talkie in its first showing outside of London, Paris, Ne\n^ York and War¬ saw, the Jubilee committee through the most generous cooperation of Mr. Reviewing I "Yiddle with His Fid¬ dle" the New York Times says "Miss Picon puts so much infectious gayety not forgetting the proper modicum of sadness, into the action that the result is genuine entertainment." And from the New York American "Miss Picon adorable . . , she pos¬ sesses a personality as disarming as it is individual. It serves her to the utmost in 'Yiddle with His Fiddle,'" There will be a matinee perform¬ ance at 2:30, while the evening showing begins at 8:00, Both gen¬ eral admission and reserved seat selections are available from the ticket committees of practically every local Jewish organization, This Third Annual United Jubilee is going to be a momentous occasion in the annals of this community's history. Plan' to participate in this event. It exemplifies not only the best in entertainment but merits the support of every Jew in Columbus. Lady Rothschild, Widow of Leopold Rothschild^ Dies at 75 Rabbi James G. The threat of imprison¬ ment and confiscation of property hangs over all Jews disobeyiiig thii order. , PARIS (WNS) — Following a secret meeting of the leaders of the anti-Nazi German Popular Front at which Heinrich Matm presided, an organized effort to promote , widfc- spread anti-Nazi sentiment in Ger.- many by a concerted campaign of propaganda was launched. The prop¬ aganda will be prepared here and smuggled into Germany. .Th^Jism.- paign was decided upon, it is re^xn-ted, as a result of the successful circula¬ tion in Germany of a manifesto of the new German Freedom Party.
