NEW YORK (WNS)—Denying that the proposed partition of Palestine is an admission of British failure and expressing the beljcf that Jewry "can still trust British statesmanship," Rabbi Samuel Schulman, rabbi emeri¬ tus of New York's Temple Emaiiu-EI, in a letter to thc New York Times commenting on the plan to set up a Jewish State in Palestine, reiterates his -anti-Zionist views,' assails, Jewisii nationalism and reaffirms his 'behci tiat the Jews are only a religioua community and not a race or a nation He says that "nationalism is about tl^c worst conception with which Israel can be called upon to operate," and adda that "our redemption cannot come by way of Palestme" but only through the fjible and "the strengthening of liberty and democracy and humanity in the world."

Silence, Denies Pledge
To' Arabs.
LONDON (WNS —Palcor Agency) — Dramatically break¬ ing his twenty years of silence on the pledge which he made on lichalf of thc British govern¬ ment to the' Arabs during tlie war. Sir Henry McMahon made a statement emphatically deny- - ing that any promise which he made to King Hussein included Palestine. Deelarlng "that -his" silence hag often heen misunder¬ stood and that he therefore felt bound to make a statement re¬ garding the pledges made to the Araba, Sir Henry wrote a^ fol¬ lows in an article published in the London Times:
"I definitely and emphatically must declare that the promise to King Hussein for Arab inde¬ pendence did not include Pales¬ tine. I also had every reason to believe at the time that tho fact that Palestine was not included in this pledge was well under¬ stood by King Hussein." As British High Commissioner of Egypt, Sir Henry wrote a letter to the Sherif of Mecca in Octo¬ ber, 1915, pledging British as¬ sistance for Arab independence in exchange for Arab assistance against the Turks.

NEW YORK (WNS)-Far from solving the knotty problem of Arab- Jewish relations, thc proposed parti¬ tion of Palestine merely guarantees the continuance and mteasification of Arab- Jewish difficulties and is hkely to lead to an Arab-Jewish war, Winston Churchill, former British Colonial Secretary and memher, of the vuar- tifflc cabinet that~ issued the Balfour Declaration, declares m a copyrighted article appearing in the Hearst news¬ papers Calling tlie partition plan "a council of despair" which if earned into effect "marks the end of the Zion¬ ist dream," Churchill points out that since there are almost as many Arabs as Jews in thc proposed Jewish state, the Royal Commission's argument that Jews and Arabs cannot dwell peace¬ ably side by side is vitiated because, as he asks, "how can it be believed that they will dwell together m amity within the narrow compass of a frac¬ tion of that land'"

VIENNA (WNS)—Citing figures to show that since 1933 no new Jewish physicians have been admitted to any Austrian hospitals and that all .Jew¬ ish physicians admitted to practice in the last five years liave been starving, the'Union of Jewish doctors of Austria has issued an appeal to Australian Jews to discourage their sons and daughters from studying niedicine. The annual picnic of the Ladies Mizrachi Society which was arranged for last Sunday, was postponed on ac¬ count of rain, and will take place to¬ morrow (Sunday), August 1st, at Olentangy Park.
Everything has been done to make this event one of the most enjoyable for both young and old. Varioiis games and amusements, prizes, etc. will be offered by the organization. Thc proceeds of this annual affair will go towards caring for many of the Polish and German refugees in Pales¬ tine.
