Of course it has no significance whatsoever, but we bet you that some prejudice mongers will tiy to make capital out of tho fact that both the American Amhafasador to the U, S. S. Funeral Services Are Held For Amelia A/larks
Funeral services tor Mrs. Amelia Marks, mother of Leo J. Marks and Mrs. Etta M. Frank, who passed away last week in Los Angeles Calif., were held last Wednesday afternoon. May 17, at 2:00 o'clock, at Schoeding¬ er's chapel with Rabbi Samuel Gup officiating. Interment was mado at Green Lawn cemetery.
The name of Amelia Marks was synonymous with all that was worthy and uplifting. No cause, whether Jewish or non- JcwLsh was ever espoused by her or had her endorsement unless it was firmly based uppn equity. Iier many valuable services and contributions dur¬ ing her life time will long be remembered with gratitude.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to her son and daughter in their hour ot sorrow.
¦ Honorable Arthur H. Day, associate Justice of the Supreme Court Of Ohio, will he the main speaker at a patriotic meeting to be hold by Zion Lodge B'nai Brith, next Monday evening. May, 22, at 8,00 o'clock, at;the East Broad St. Temple audi¬ torium. He has chosen for his subject "Americans AU" a most appropriate discu.ssion in times like the.se when malicious pro¬ paganda is being spread thru¬ out the country against the for¬ eign born and minority groups.
The misrepresentation of facts regarding the contribu¬ tions immigrants have made to this great American democracy has been challenged not only by Jewish leaders but promin¬ ent Christians in America as well. Judge Day's analysis should prove most interesting to every Jew in our city.
The meeting Monday night is to commemorate the celebra¬ tions of Flag Day and Memorial Day. The names of the Jew¬ ish war dead will be read, and members of the lodge who serv¬ ed in the last world's war.will be called upon tor brief re¬ marks.
The officers of Zion Lodge ex¬ tend an invitation to the entire community to participate in the celebration Monday niglit and also to hear the distinguished jurist, Arthur H. Day.

Tho continued decline ot Nazi export economy was point¬ ed out in a report on Gorman trade released 3'esterday by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, Chairman of the Joint Boycott Council of the American Jewish Congress and the Jewish -Labor Commit¬ tee. According to tho report, exports from greater Germany for the tirst three months ot 1939 did not reach the figure attained hy the old Reich for the corresponding period of 1038, exports in 1939 totaling 1332.0 million marks as com¬ pared with 13B0 millon marks in 1938. At the' same time, imports into greater Germany increased from 1,308.8 million marks to 1447.9, an increase ot 3..5 per¬ cent. As a result, Germany's unfavorable trade balance rose from 39 million marks..f'-' ;he first three months of ,,-)38 to 115.3 million marks iti 1939, an Increase ot almost 300 percent. Increased importations ot raw material for use in arma¬ ments s\ich as motor fuel and lubricating oil, as "woll as tbe needs ot Austria and the "pro¬ tectorate" ot Bohemia and Mor¬ avia, whicii have no natural re¬ sources except timber and coal and aro greatly dependent on imports, were responsible for this trend.
U. S. Imports Drop 20% Considering German-Ameri¬ can trade. Dr. Tenenbaum's re¬ port Indicates that tor the first three months ot 1939, importa¬ tions from greater Germany in¬ to the United States totaled .'518,- 987,871 as compared with $22,- 761,104 tor 1938 or a drop of 20%. He points out that In 1938, almost one-halt of the im- jjorts from Germany con.sisted of chemical products, metals and manufactures, machinery and vehicles. Imports of chemi¬ cal products alone being valued at 518,042,000 or 30% of total Imports. Dr. Tenenbaum main¬ tains that these figures show the necessity ot strengthening the Boycott in tho capital goods industries.
As tor general consumer items, the report indicates that the Boycott has been most ef¬ fective. Examples of this trend can be found in the decline ot textile fibres and manufactures which dropped from $7,182,000 in 193G to $1,080,000 in 1938, and animal products including loath er and furs which declined from $4,350,000 to 81,050,000 during the same period.
Calling attention to the huge increase in the importation ot cameras and photographic sup¬ plies, Dr. Tenenbaum's report show.-, that the importation of thesi products lias increased from $4;M,043 in 1032 to $4,322,- 000 in 1938. He points out that Germany has obtained more foreign exchange from her sale of cameras in this counti-y than from the total amount re¬ ceived for toys, jewelry, gloves, fiurs, glassware, beads and spangles. TERUSALEM (WNS):— Extraordinary preparations are being made throughout Pales-. tine in anticipation of tho pub¬ lication of the While Paper in which will be announced tho future policy of Great Britain in Palestine.
Annoucement that the con¬ tents of the White Paper would be broadcast .shortly has arous¬ ed the most profound feeling throughout the Yishuv. All Jewish organizations of Eretz Israel have met in a continual series ot conferences to deter¬ mine on measuies to be pur¬ sued in a concerted attempt to frustrate the new iioliej' after the appearance of the White Paper. The entire group ot Labor organizations held a con¬ ference in Tel Aviv, where the I,abor and Ezrachim (middle- class) blocs and youths, stu¬ dents and leaders met subse¬ quently. Tho latter groups have moved a joint resolution with the Tel Aviv Municipality. Il is reported that British Po¬ lice otticers of Tel Aviv hav« received sealed orders from Jerusalem containing instruc¬ tions on procedure to be follow¬ ed in ease of possible outbreak of violence. Patrols have beon increased ¦ ar tlt6 boundaries,'^- and mounted constables are on duty in the streets. Proclama¬ tions against illegal activities have been issued.
The Chief Rabbinate pro¬ claimed Thursday as a day of fasting and prayer—Yom Kip¬ pur Katan (Small Day of Atone¬ ment). Appeal is made to the Yishuv to stop work and join in prayers for two hours dui'ing the evening.
That the Arab terrorists are no more satisfied with the terms ot the forth-coming While Pa¬ per than are the Jews is indi¬ cated- in reports that they are planning an increase of vio¬ lence directly after pubUcation, as foreshadowed in the two manitosloes issued during the past week by the "Arab Rebel High Command."
Survey Being IVIade Of Unnaturalized Residents Here
The Columbus section of Na¬ tional Council of Jewish Women in cooperation with the B'nal Brith and the Jewish War Vet¬ erans, has undertaken a survey ot the Jewish community to determine the number ot un¬ naturalized residents now liv¬ ing here who have not applied for their tirst citizenship pa¬ pers.
It is the aim ot this group to assist all such aliens in becom¬ ing citizens. Those who have not been contacted are urged to get in touch with Mrs. Wil¬ liam Schiff Council president, FA. 8306 or Miss Alice Loeb FA. 5833,^ in charge of the present dijtve.
Free classes in Americaniza¬ tion and Citizenship cla.sses aro conducted nightly at the Schon¬ thal center under Council auspices and are in charge ot capable and trained teachers.
