"Wc, representatives ¦ of the Christian, faith in , America, pub¬ licly, condemn the -oppression to which millions of Jews are being subjected as a'Wot on the civiliza¬ tion of our tihle.. The brutal disr regard of human, rights, and the dignity of human life, wherein Jews are concerned, in so'many Sections of the world, is the right¬ ful concern of the Christian church. The hiatory of the world has shown ua, and, the history of the past five years has' reminded us,' that
civilization itself is- endangered when ,the foundations of civilized society aro destroyed in' any sec- tion of the world. What ia hap¬ pening to the Jewish people, tragic as it is' for millions of them, ia even niore tragic to the world at large ns a symbol of tho efforts ^^ihich are being made to destroy democracy, peace . and humanity itself.
"As .Christian ministers and lay¬ men, wo extend'our profoundest sympathy to the sultering Jewry. We hail the efforts 'of our fellow -Americans associated with the American Jowish Cfcngress.'' to unito the resources of the Jewiah community of this country in a democratic front against anti- Semitisiri. .In Seeking to create a democratic , agency to repreaent the Jewish people and to devise a program, for tho protection of the rights of Jews, the American' .Tewiah Congress is upholding, the highest traditions of .American democracy. Its efforts deserve the sympathetic support! of Americans of all faiths, -which we hope ,will be' forthcoming."

CHICAGO (WN,S) — "Ne-vv World society can no more isolate itaelf from the tnoi-nl and psycbolo- pical effects of the horrors hciiig lived by the Jews of Austria and Gerrtiany than it can isolate itself from -international broadcasts," Alf M. Landon, 1936 RepubUcan presidential nominee, declared in an addtesg before the annual con¬ vention of the Inland Daily Press Association," After warning: that "we mnst not make the fatal mis¬ take of TODcting undesirable isms and-intqleranCb with repression,", and conceding that "there is real danger of the growth of ihtoler- anco," Landon said ''one dips intd the newspaper today, finding with shocking regularity news atoriea ahout horrible cruelty and ihtol- cL-ance in -Russia, Germany and Italy," He declared, "We are loath to believe that such ideas and; practices can spread to America," but, he continued, "there is start¬ ling . contagion, in this t r end. Massed brutality is contagious.
."The inind that views brutality and injustice w:ith -indifference, because, ifc, primarily affects the Jews, is hot awake to the ¦ real danger, ,Some, :-I know,', look upon tbeso things ^yith seeming toler¬ ance; They even say, lightly, the thing may happen here. So the threat is xeal. AbloodraTid-thunder age makes little distinction in its vicfciins. .Brutality toward Jews or any one, else will in the end en¬ gulf all hunian relations, regard¬ less of race, class or. creed. It is, therefore, imperative that the American press continue in ^ it's traditional role,' fighting for the .fundamental, principles of -free¬ dom."

¦WARSAW' '(W N S) — Poland's 3,5(10,000 Jews were virtually read but of thc nation's economic cul¬ tural life when thc Camp of Na¬ tional ;Uhity, tho ofl'icial govern¬ ment party, ,adopted a 12f-p6iiit program ,rcgarding the Jews which demands the curtailment of their participation in economic life, a' reduction of theic "numbers by en¬ forced emiEration regulated by international cooperation and the i-GStriction of Jewish; participation in the school system, the press, radio arid the' theater. Announc¬ ing its decisions at the close of a three-day conference of the party's national council,,the party issued a declaration asserting that 'it,,aimed at creating a great Po¬ land and that tho Jews, as a politi¬ cal factor identified with Jewish groups outside the state, had separate national aims and there¬ fore weakened Poland's national forces arid interfered -with national evolution. ,
,The statement condemned the realization of its'aima by violence, denouncing "demagogic and anar¬ chistic" attempts to solve the Jew¬ ish problem which-are disturbing public order, but urged a reduc¬ tion in the number of, Jews by emigration,'favored tho creation of ,a Jewish state in Palestine and Jewish emigration elsewhere un der international ,auspiceS.' Legis¬ lative means to reduce the Jewish share in industry and, trade was
recommended. Efforts by stu^lonts to eliminate Jews from tho schools wero opposed, tho party holding that Jewiah participation in tho Polish achool system should be re¬ duced by tho school' ,authorities. The declaration also stated that Poland docs not want .i;o assimi- lafb the Jows but will regard as Poles individual; Jews identified with Polish interests and culture. , Tho Jewish population nnd its leaders were -warned that utiliza¬ tion of international Connections to damage Polish interests would bo punished and .would harm Jewish interests.
Press reports indicated that the " council also discussed the strength, ening of - Christian loan banks to combat the. Jewish loan kassaff 'subsidized by tho Joint Distsibu- tion Committee which are regarded : as the chief obstacles to the Pol- onization' of trade and industry, which is ;the euphemism fer the elimination of Jews. At the .same time, however, the Council for For-' eign Trade rejected o demand sub-, mitted to the minister of commerce ; by the Chi-istian Merchants Asso-; elation that special exports groups bo formed in feathers, eggs and fowl to eliminate Jews and that sections be introduced, for Jewish traders ip market fairs thrdugrh- out the country. The trade ,group warned that Aryanization of ex¬ port trad'o would be harmful .to; Poland^ economic interests.
