MEXICO CITY (WNS)—Mexi¬ can Jewry, long divided, into war¬ ring ifactlons of Sephardim and Ashkeiiazim, united for the first timo at a conference of- represen¬ tatives, of oil Jewish -organiza¬ tions called by the B'nai Britli and.the Jewish Chamber of Com¬ merce; and decided to establish a permanent Federation of Jewish Organizations authorized to speak in behalf of the entire Jewish com¬ munity; ;| Details of' organization were left to a later meeting when the Federation will decide what to do about the government's re¬ quest tor cooperation in taking o census of aliena. Although the meeting ended on a note of' har¬ mony it came close to breaking "up when the Sephardio Jewa insisted that only Spanish be spoken. Tho report declares that therearo now 100,000 Jewiah farmers in the United States in practically all of the 48 states. Forty-seven iiew fami¬ lies were placed on farms in loij'j. The Society made 316 loans amounting to ?12,362 during 1937, bringing the total to 12,313 since ISOO-and the amount to $7,613,000. There were 947 -people who sought the advico of the Society's, form settlement department in 1937, making the total for the last 20 years 20,3361 The Society's exten¬ sion department -experts made 3,275 farm visits, held 180 meet¬ ings and demonstrations attended by 5,727 farmers.' The farm place¬ ment department- found ogricul- tural jobs for 172 persons in 1937, bringing the' total to 18,261 iri 32 states since 1908. Ten of the new placements were Gorman refu¬ gees and 31 were agricultural students. .
