STOCKHOLM (WNS)—War¬ saw gripped by famine with the last food re.serves rapidly di¬ minishing and the Lublin Jew¬ ish "reservation" In Poland a "city of horror" In which Jews were dying by the hundreds of starvation and disease was the picture painted here from stor¬ ies told by refugees who man¬ aged to e.scape Nazi-occupied Poland.
Roads leading to Warsaw are crowded with Jewish families, seeking to escape the starva¬ tion In Lodz and other cities and villages, only to find equal¬ ly desperate conditions In the former capital. By foot and in horse-drawn wagons. In a man¬ ner reminiscent but more hor¬ rible than that described in the American novel, "The Grapes of Wrath", thousands of Jews are streaming to VVarsaw In the hope of finding food and shelter. During the past month the niimber of Jews in Warsaw alone had to be supplied with food by local Jewish relief or¬ ganizations and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Com¬ mittee jumped from 50,000 to 150,000. Food supplies are run¬ ning out and even the more fortunate Jews, who have sav¬ ings, are-flriding Itriiicreaslngly; i<jlIfflo(Ut'i(o|juixh^teto6a-i3t^^^ JZS^jidffl&nfeiSi'Si^'rPMicularfii. ¦

Thousands of Jews have been crowded Into temporary bar¬ racks in open fields, at the mercy of frost and wind, with out food and unable to contact the outside world. The bar¬ racks were constructed .several miles from the city of Lublin and Isolated with barbed wire to prevent escape.
Unable to secure medical aid and driven like cattle in the in adequate barracks, the Jews fear that unless assistance is forthcoming immediately that the epidemics will result in the death of the entire population in "reservation". The Red Cross, It was learned, had been for¬ bidden to bring medical supplies and clothing to Lublin. Press Expulsions
Meanwhile, it was reiiorted that Nazi authorities are press¬ ing their campaign to expel the Jewish population ot Lodz. Thousands of Jews have already been driven out at a few hours notice. Two ghettos have been created by the Nazis for non- Germans remaining in Lodz— the northern section for Jews and the southern district for Poles. The central area of the city will be restricted to "ary¬ an" Germans. One Nazi news¬ paper, which has just reached here, reported that "the expul¬ sion of Jews from Lodz is mak¬ ing good progress, and the ex¬ pelled Jews are being replaced by Germans repatriated from the Baltic and Woihynia areas".
Lodz Jews in Warsaw are eas¬ ily recognized since they wear yellow badges across their backs. Jews in Warsaw are compelled, to wear blue-white armlets with six-pointed stars.
Reports Breadlines
ROMB (WNS)—S. Valchini, correspondent of the Italian newspaper, Corriere della Serra, the first foreign newspapetTnan
to be permitted to enter War¬ saw, reported here that Jews, wearing their special blue-white armlets, are being compelled to do enforced labor In special bat¬ talions. Jews have been as¬ signed to clean up the ruin.'! caused by the invasion of the Nazi troops.
He described long breadlines in the streets of Warsaw and said that many formerly weal¬ thy Jews were now peddling, their wares consisting of a single piece of soap, a pound of beans or a bag of potatoes.

RACIAL TENSION AMONG 40,0000 CITV TEACHERS DEPLORED
NEW VOBK (WNS)—Ad¬ dressing a conference attended by 1,000 schooj principals and supervisors. Superintendent of Schools Harold G. Campbell de¬ plored the increasing "tension" resulting from religious and ra¬ cial differences among the 40,- 000 teachers in New York City's schools.
