BOMB (WNS) — Following Italy's moves to rid the profes¬ sions of all Jews, Premier Ben¬ ito Mussolini has Indicated that he will soon launch a campaign to force Italy's 40,000 Jews out of the country, It was learned from ufsually reliable sources here.
The first tangible step in the new anti-Semitic drive was seen in the Government's recall of a previous order banning Jewish emigration to other countries. Several weeks ago Rome author¬ ities called In all passports held by Jews.
It was reported that the Gov¬ ernment now wishes to have Jews emigrate from litay at the rate of 3,500 a year. At this rate, it is estimated, the entire Jewish population will have left Italy within eleven years.
The Italian quota for immi¬ gration to the United States is 5,200 yearly, far in excess of 3,500, There is no similarity between tbe situation confront¬ ing Italian Jews and the predica¬ ment in which Jews of Greater Germany find themselves since there arc more emigration pos slbilitles open to Italian Jews In recent years Italian Jews have emlg^ted in groups to <9«ttt)i^!<fto»iclM^ 4ij[d<itth$£(U&aM(

AMSTERDAM (WNS)— A wide-spread epidemic has been taking a fearful toll in the Lub¬ lin Jewish "reservation" as a result of the overcrowding, lack of fresh food and medical sup¬ plies, it was reliably learned here.
Medical circles frequently warned that an epidemic is in¬ evitable under current condi¬ tions In the reservation. In the face of these warnings Nazi authorities have continued to send Jews from all parts of Greater Germany to that small area outside of Lublin which has been designated as the "Jewish reservation."
The epidemic was held in check while the cold weather continued but the arrival of Spring and warm weather pre¬ cipitated a new outbreak which is rapidly decimating the popu¬ lation. Nazi authorities, it was reported, have requested Berlin to discontinue the practice of expelling Jews from other parts of Germany to LubUn but this request has been ignored
Unless aid is forthcoming Im¬ mediately the epidemic will pro¬ bably reach catastrophic propoi> tlons. Because ,of a recent Nazi decree Jews In the reservation are not' permitted to coptact Jewish communities, in other -itc** ¦ ' -^
Iws 15[ecut?a«<i -j^i^ "MeanwhUe, it was repor^W that In Lodz, appropriately ' known here as the city of hor¬ ror, between 30 and 40 Jews are executed by the CSestapo every Thursday, The weekly .execu¬ tions are carried out in the small Lodz suburb of Beldow,
No official reason has been given for the. executions but It is believed that the Nazi need more room In the already over¬ crowded jails for more prisoners and have hit upon the idea of weekly executions to provide more room. The victims are selected at random by the Ges¬ tapo and herded Into Jail to await "Black Thursday".
The Jewish communities in Lodz and neighboring districts, it was said, present a weird appearance because of the com¬ plete lack of men between the ages of 16 and 50, The great majority of the younger Jews are In prison. The city pris¬ ons are crowded with thousands of men, women and children, most of whom bad been arrest¬ ed on the flimsiest charges. On one day last February approxi¬ mately 80 Jewish women were seized by the Gestapo while walking on Piotrokowska Street.
The prisons have no sanitary facilities and many prisoners contract typhoid while serving their sentences. Fifteen per¬ sons are herded into cells orig¬ inally built for two or three pei sons.
Meanwhile, those more fortun ate Jews who are not in prison have been ordered to move fnto the poorest slum quarter In the city, which henceforth will be the Jewish quarter. One room Is available in this quarter— the Balutl district—lor every three Jewish families.
The Jews are not permitted to take their furniture or bed¬ clothes witli them but may take small bundles of personal ef¬ fects. Jewish homes outside the Balutl section are designat¬ ed hy special yellow signs.
