THINfiS VOU SHOULD KNOW
On Monday, April Sth, George Backer'.<; New York Post, In a dispatch mailed from Copen¬ hagen hy W. L. White, carried this sentence: "Germany, If she wanted to, could occupy Den mark in an afternoon" ... At the time the Po.st Staff didn't know it, of course—but, if you remember, it was on Monday, April Sth, that Germany devot¬ ed an afternoon to the occupa¬ tion of Denmark . . . Certain shrewd observers insist that Switzerland is one country that needn't fear any violation of its neutrality by Germany . . . This because so many Nazi bigwigs, including Badolf himself, have large sums of money in Swiss banks . . . The theory no doubt being that good cash Is safer out of HItlerland than inside Germany . . . Some of those aer¬ ial photos of English cities which the Nazis publish with the claim that their reconnoiter- ing planes have made them In recent months show empty lots that in actuality were built up by the middle of 1939 ... In other words, the photos are of J?'' pre war vintage . . . Latest Go-

An indi¬ cation that. A new book on the late publisher Hor¬ ace Llveright is in the offing . . . Manuel Komroff is preparing to write It ... To non-English- wrlting authors in this country we want to point out that it's no coincidence that Maurice Sam¬ uel's two latest translations, Sholem Asch's "The Nazarene" and Martin Gumpert's "Hell Hunger", are among the fastest- selling books on the market . . . An Important factor in their suc¬ cess is the circumstance that Samuel rates as one of the best translators in the country . . . JEWISH NEWS
