The total number of Jews kill¬ ed in Rumania and the recap- lured provinces of Bessarabia and Bukovina since the start ot the German-Russian war has now reached the appalling fig¬ ure of 12,000. Most of the Jews were executed as "Com¬ munist agents and satMteurs.' No end of this orgy of killing is in sight with the anti Jewish campaign thioughout Rumania unrelenting in its violence

Meanwhile, the mobilization of 180,000 Rumanian Jews for compulsory labor service on the Russian front has been com¬ pleted. The Jews are being sent to rebuild roads and fortifi cations in the dangerous war zones as rapidly as they can be transported. The Jews must wear yellow arm-bands even while working on the front and are under the direct supervision of German officers.
The report stated that so many Jews have been arrested In the la.st six weeks that Rumanian authorities were compelled to open another concentration camp. The new concentration camp already holds 1,000 Jews who were arrested along with hundreds of non-Jews during a police drive against "enemies of the state.'

Although Arthur Goldberg served as vif(M'hairman of (ho 1041 I'nilod Jewish Fund Campaign and did a fine nnd constrHCtlve job, his photo did not appear in last week's page of the rhronicie devotc4l (o an appreciation to the com- nilt.lee hy K. Nevertheless, Mr. Gold¬ berg's splendid eontribution of time and cnerg,v was a great factor in the success of this year's effort, for which the executive conimittee, as well as t'olunibiis Jewr>-, is most apprecintive.

ANTI-SEMITISM IN CONGRESS BLOCKS U. S. AID TO REFUGEES, REPORTER CHARGES
NKW YORK (WNH I—Charg¬ ing thai "Ihe malignant politi¬ cal fliseasc known as anti-Semit¬ ism has altitcl<e(l a large num- her of Congressmen than is gen¬ erally realized". Kenneth d. Crawfonl, Washington corres¬ pondent for the New York News¬ paper PM. (leciareti thai Iho anti- Semitic bloc in Congress has blocked ail United Stiites efforts to aid .lewish refugees.
"The very fact Ihal Ihey talk about the '.lewish problem' in relation to immigration—as thoy do behind closeti committee floors if not in public—is a symp¬ tom," Mr. Crawford stateti. ce<i Nazi propa^ndA- has^iade in Japan for this trtarks thci fIrtt time that the controlled Japan ese press saw a "Jewish plot' In major international Issues.
The anti-Jewish attack was led by the weekly magazine of the newspaper. Asahi, which charged that the Jews persuad¬ ed Churchill to declare war againsi Germany and are hack¬ ing Stalin against Hitler in a gigantic conspiracy "lo over¬ throw the world-ruling powers.
Stating that President Roose¬ velt and Mr. Churchill were backetl by "Jewish influence and power", the Japanese paperj said: "Jews re-elected Roosevelti for a thini term. Jews coaxedj Churehiil to war againsi C.er- many. Jews are conspiring to overthrow the world-ruling poiyers.
"Jews want bases in the At-] lantic and Pacific, at Hurma.i and bases in China from which' to bomb Japan. Jews have aban- dono<i mere cultural dominationj ambitions and are now seeking! to encircle cxjuntries which are^ trying to establish a new order."
As if aware that this fantas¬ tic interpretation of world events would meet with Incredulity among the Jaiwnese population, the newspaper lamely concluded: "These remarks may be laugh¬ ed off as the dream of a fiction writer but they are most im¬ portant."
^ "Several studfes of immi|[rantti in recent years^nave sh^\^ Mow unreal the danger ,of comptW tion from them is. An analysis ot 1000 typtol cases shovved that more than half were women, children or aged per¬ sons without otrupation. Of

Recent refugees from Germany and the Low Counlries have brought wilh them whole in- fiuslries and skills that will sup¬ ply goods previoupl,v imported from Europe.
"Hiller, it may be recalled, did noi order his bully boys to break up the shops of blue-eyed Nordics and herd them into ghetloes. He did not attack, at least not immediately, the con- .servatlve capitalists who operat¬ ed the Industries he needed and later look. The people who had reason to seek refuge were the Jews and the leftists. Rep¬ resentative John Rankin and Senator Reynolds could not be expected to like them. But they probably wouldn't have approv¬ ed of many of the immigrants who have come to America since the Pilgrims. They might not have approved of their own an¬ cestors, had they known them.
"All these facts about the refugees are well known to the State and Labor Department of ficials to the State Labor De¬ partment officials who admlnls ter the immigration law Most of these officials, particularly ixtr the j:.«bori„Departjnent, are ,^rthiiBj#U<!3^ttfavttiie olrtganiza- ^

Nazis Blaine Jews For Anti-Nazi Riots In Occupied France
LISBON (WNS) _ Hundreds of Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps follow¬ ing a series of anti-Nazi demon¬ strations in Paris and olher parts of occupied FYance. it was reportCHl here. Drastic police ac-tion failed to curb the anti- Nazi demonstrators and a num¬ ber of Nazi soldiers were shot during tbe rioting, the report .said.
The Paris press attributed the anti-Na'zi riots Vo the subver¬ sive activities of Jews and Com¬ munists, justifying the brutal beatings given .lews by Nazi Iroojis. The situation in Paris is still not under control by the Nazi police, with spontaneous anti-Nazi demonstrations flaring up in all sections of the city
Meanwhile, the arrest in Paris of Pierre Delamare, an "Aryan" adminlstmtor of Jewish busi¬ ness enterprises, brought lo light a scheme whereby nolor louj swindlei-s were using the anti-Jewish laws to mulct huge sums of money from desperate Jews.
Delamare was arrested while extorting 10,000 francs from a Jewish merchant. He had threatened to send the Jew to a concentration camp unless the Jew gave him 30,000 francs. Dela¬ mare was accused also ot extort ing huge sums from other Jews In return for a promise to pro¬ long the "liquidation" of their
business affairs.
That the swindling of Jews is conducted on a wide scale was evident in a report from Nice which dl.sclosed how an unidenti¬ fied Jewish banker was swind¬ led oul of 1,000,000 francs by two French "Aryans." who had promised lo return the Jewish banker lo his former post.

NKW YORK (WNS)—More than K.OOO .lewish refugees from lands under the domina¬ tion of the Nazi regime were settled in Palestine through the assistance of the Uniled Pales- line Api>eai since the outbreak of the war two years ago. It was announced by Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal. Tbe immigration figure for the jieriod since September, 1939, has brought lo a total of more Ihan 310,000 the number of home¬ less Jews from Poland, Germany, Rumania and other countries who have found a permanent home in Palestine since the Nazis came lo power In 1033.
Dr. Sliver emphasized that al though the war had created critical problems for the 550,000 Jews In Palestine, the normal re¬ building program as well as the work of caring for, training and settling newly arrived refugees had continued without interrup¬ tion through the financial sup¬ port provided by the United Jewish Appeal.
