"A half million unarmed Jews are now trapped in Palestine neatly pocketed and handy for murder and torture when, and If, the Nazis catch up with them," the editorial stated. Con. demning the British announce-] ment that the Government can-j not equip a Jewish Army in the Near East, PM suggested: "Let's use this lend-lease system to furnish the equipment to a Jew-! ish Army in Palestine." One or two other (Continued on Pags 8) ATLANTA (JPS)—"I honor the Ku KIux Klan," said Ike Wingrow, who claimed that "I am a Jew and proud of It" at a clemency hearing held here by Governor Eugene Talmadge for six Ku Klux Klansmen serving one to three year sentences for lashing several pro-union mill workers In 1938. The remarkable confession ot the Jewish attorney, who said "It may seem strange for a Jew to .say this, but I honor the Ku Klux Klan," after claming that "I am a Jew and proud of it," provoked the scorn of Dr, Ed¬ ward O. Mackay, Superintend¬ ent of the Atlanta Methodist dis¬ trict, who declared that "I am amazed to hear a brother ot the Hebrew faith praise so warmly the Ku Klux Klan. I have despised the Klan for years because of its injustice to the Jewish race." Continuing to heap praise on the race-baiting, Jew-hating Klan, Wingrow, who was ap pearing for the Klansmen, said: :^ "I honored them in the old Re¬ construction Days, and I honor the Klan today. The remarkable confession ot the Jewish attorney, who said "It may seem strange for a Jew to .say this, but I honor the Ku Klux Klan," after claming that "I am a Jew and proud of it," provoked the scorn of Dr, Ed¬ ward O. Mackay, Superintend¬ ent of the Atlanta Methodist dis¬ trict, who declared that "I am amazed to hear a brother ot the Hebrew faith praise so warmly the Ku Klux Klan. I have despised the Klan for years because of its injustice to the Jewish race." Continuing to heap praise on the race-baiting, Jew-hating Klan, Wingrow, who was ap pearing for the Klansmen, said: :^ "I honored them in the old Re¬ construction Days, and I honor the Klan today. The Klan and its methods are only comparable to the despic¬ able Gestapo." Among other ministers whd attacked Wing- row's statement was Dr. Lk)uis Newton, Baptist leader. In ans¬ wer to this denunciation, the' Jew replied, "It I were a Kyk- lops of the Ku Klux Klan, t would be proud of it." At the hearing Governor Tal¬ madge admitted that he had once flogged a Negro and com¬ pared himself to the "Apostle Paul" tor having done so.
