Capacity Crowd Is Anticipated For Schwartz Concert Maurice Schwartz, who will appear in a concert at East High School Auditorium next Tuesday, Jan. 20, al 8:00 p. m., has the unique distinction of] having developed and brought to the forefront some of the best Jewish theatrical talent in the country. - It was Mr. Miriam Rubini Schwartz who di.scovered and guided to their full develop¬ menl such bfiliiant names as Paul Muni- foremost film actor, Jacob Ben-Ami of stage fame, Joseph Buloff currently starring on Broadway, Stella Adier and many oihers. Miss Miriam Rubini, the fam¬ ous opera star who will parti¬ cipate in the concert as support¬ ing artist, is his latest find. Mr. Schwartz relates that last summer during his guest en¬ gagement in Argentina, he was Invited to attend a presenta tlon ot "Madame Butterfly" at the Colon Opera House In Beu nos Aires. Impressed by the brilliant acting and musical voice ot the leading prima don¬ na, Mr- Schwariz asked to meet the singer. The singer's name was Miriam Rubini. To his great surprise and pleasure, Mr. Schwartz learned that the diva was ot .lewish origin and more¬ over an excellent interpreter of Jewish and Hebrew as well as Internalional folk songs. Maurice Schwartz right then and tliere suggested to the sing¬ er an appearance in his theatre In New York. Miss Eubinl had long cher-' ished a desire to sing lo the liroad masses of Jewish theatre¬ goers and Iherefore welcomed Mr. Schwartz's invilation. In consequence Miss Rubini Join¬ ed Mr. Schwartz's company in New York, made several guesl appearances In stellar roles in New York opera houses and wheW Mr. Schwartz conceived the idea ot the present coast to coast tour, consented to accom pany him. The Coiumbus Jewish Com¬ munity wiil have the pleasure of hearing Miss Rubini in a selection ot folk songs in sev¬ en languages, the majority ofi which will be those Jewish and Hebrew songs in which the singer particularly excels, such as "Rachem", "Relzela" "Aha¬ vath Zion", elc. She will also* render some ot her best oper¬ atic pieces. Miss Rublni's appearance wlli undoubtedly contribute to the! deep esthetic experience in store for visltorB at the concert at East High School Auditor- ATLANTIC CITY, N. J., (JP| S)—Statistics provided by Cap¬ tain Lawrence J. Cohen of the United States Medical Corps at Fort Bennlng, Ga., reveal that injuries among parachute troops are tew and that the daring, service is as safe as any olherj branch of the armed forces. I Al the tenth annual conven-! tion of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons held here. Captain Cohen declared that in 20,869 Jumps there had been only 217 injuries.
