Quoting from the B'nai B'rith ritual "-Not the contest and measure of strength, but co-operation makes a beau¬ tiful life possible. Harmony among its citizens is the source of strength unto a people. 'This spirit has given unto Is¬ rael the power of its past and the promise of its future". It is this kind of approach to the most \-ital problems affect¬ ing the ,Iew"ish people everywhere which h.ns characterized every United Jewish Fund campaign in the past, and this year more then ever. Robert W. Schiff, general chairman, and I. W. Garek, chairmati of ihc campaign organisation for the 19-13 drive, are this week announcing that Miss Mar¬ jorie Wasserstrom will be chairman of the Junior Division of the Fund, with David Goldsmith to servo as senior advis¬ or of the group.
According to Miss Wasserstrom and Mr. Goldsmith, the work of organizing the Junior Division is ncivj, under way, and every indication points to greater achievements by the youthful workers of th.is community this year. While in the past, tho major emphasis of the work of this group has been among the youth organizations,, this year it is hoped that considerably more will be done among those under the age Of 18.
"Our aim i.s primarily that of making iho youth of our com¬ munity aware of the problems in .lewish life. Unless we are able Id inculcatd a sense of indi¬ vidual rc.spon.sibilily, the work of future years can he seriously hampei-cd. While the siim of money raised is insignificant as such, the greater significance is in Ihe educational process through which the youth of our communily is made aware ot their responsihilily as Jews", Miss Wasserstrom stated. .>lr. Schiff Confident In reviewing the achievement^ so far, .Mr. Schiff said that the results lo date-by the Men's Di¬ vision in soliciting advanced suliscriplions have given added impetus to the speeding up and streamlining of the entire cam¬ paign organization; Campaign leaders, he ilcclared, feel that '43 is not the time in which to follow tradliional methods of campaign¬ ing. Unprecedented, tragic world
