From the ¦very cradle, with the first soothing tones ol mother's lullaby, the babe in the Jewish home is exhorted that "tietter than raisins and almonds, better far than all the sweets of life is the, sweet boon of Torah." The knowledge and obseryancie of the Torah is the "summum bonum" for the Jew.' ¦ Who better than the Jew can under¬ stand the Book of books?- As Dr. Schechter, of blessed memory, expressed it iti his quaint manner, "Our grand¬ mothers and grandfathers who read the Psalms and had a good cry over them, understand them better than all the pro¬ fessors." The Attorney General last year, after the first charge against Rosenbluth fell flat, instead of exonerating the captain, turned over some (not all) of the papers in the case to Prosecuting Attorney Sel- den, because the Federal Courts had no jurisdiction. The question of jurisdic¬ tion was not a difficult point of law. It was simple, quite evident, easily de¬ termined. The Attorney retained by Gen¬ eral Cronkhite, father of the dead of¬ ficer, stated in writing that it was out¬ side Federal jurisdiction. Even the At¬ torney General, on March 31, 1921, one week after Captain Rosenbluth was ar¬ rested, wired the U. S. District Attor¬ ney at Seattle that the case was outside Federal control, yet he held Rosenbluth for four months illegally after that date.. (Concluded on page 4.) Masuanskv , 4 I ' -^^,^.•|¦fR Legality of Indictment Yet in spite of Prosecutor Selden's complete exoneration, in -spite of the findings of the military board of in- - quiry that Major Cronkhite "met his death by reason of an accidental self- inflicted wound," in spite of the manner in which the "confessions" were secured from the weak Pothier by unscrupulous agents of the Department, "confessions" ' which he repudiated, in spite of the fact that Attorney General Daugherty offi¬ cially stated that there was no Federal jurisdiction in the case, here is a Federal indictment returned by a Grand Jury, brdered to investigate the case by the Attorney General himself. The Attorney General last year, after the first charge against Rosenbluth fell flat, instead of exonerating the captain, turned over some (not all) of the papers in the case to Prosecuting Attorney Sel- den, because the Federal Courts had no jurisdiction. (Concluded on page 4.)
