The lady, It seems, remarked; "¦What a wonderful family the Eisenhowers are—one brother died at Bataan; one is In charge of the Army In Europe, and you have a big Job here in Washing¬ ton .. . You're a great family— what a pity you're Jewish! . . , Whereupon Milton Elsenhower retorted: "Madam —what a pity we're not!" ... All of which should be a lesson to Air Cadet Bernard Epstein of Yonker.s, who has changed his moniker to a 'less Jewish-sounding handle iiecause he's afraid that If his plane Is shot down over Ger¬ many he'd be badly treated by the NazLs because of his Jewish name . . . We haven't, for that matter, noticed any name-chang¬ ing operation undertaken by Bombardier Meyer Levin and others like him . .~i

1^ All this recent speculation about whether or not Hitler Is dead recalls the story of how 1 the Fuehrer long ago Issued in- r-.R(f uotlons that on hla death his ^ Brain should be dissected by his . favorite scientist — presumably to enable jrosterity to have a rec¬ ord of the exact degree to which Adolf's grey matter Is addled . - Hitler says, Winchell, is losing on the ground in Russia in the air over Germany and on the sands of Africa — but he seems to score an occasional vlctoi-y In Congress . . . The Nazis, It Is re¬ ported, are trying to pprsuade the people of Paris to Include rats In their diet — Which we view as plain propaganda for cannibalism . . .

BOSTON (WNS) — Pointing out that racial hatred "curses not only our own country but stands l>etween the United Na¬ tions and ^ victory because of what has been done to people because they are colored In In¬ dia, Malaya, Burma, Africa and the West Indies", Walter White, Secretary of the National As¬ sociation for the Advancement of Colored People; declared in a Lincoln's Day address that the Only way In which disaster can be averted Is by a "re-dedlcatlon of ourselves to the spirit of Lincoln, not for the sake of mlnorlUes alone, but In enlight¬ ened Interesi of all Americans", Mr. White, speaking at Tem¬ ple Israel at a special Inter- Racial Service, continued: "Un¬ less we begin to find a solution, not after the war, but right now, to this question of race not only in our own country, but through¬ out Ihc world. It is conceivable that we shall- not win this war, but instead, we shall merely pur¬ chase for ourselves a brief in¬ terlude between this war and an even more disastrous one.
"Lincoln", .lald Mr, White, "would be willing. If not anx¬ ious, to return to his grave If he returned now to see how little his advice had been heeded. He would be even more reiidy to return to the shadows were he to see that racial hatred for which he gave up his life, today curses nof only our own coiin- try but stands between the Unlr ted Nations and victory"'.
Dr. Joshua Loth-Liebman, rab¬ bl of Temple Israel, shared the pulpit with Mr- White. The Lin¬ coln Day Inter-Raclal services were held by Temple Israel in (Continued on Page 8)

Nazi occupation of that counlry are still alive, according to an unrtergrouild report smuggled nut of Nazi-occupied Poland hy a former member of the German- organized Polish police force and made public this week by the Jewish Labor Committee.
The antl-Nazl agent who brought Ihe report out of Poland Is a secref courier of the United Polish Underground Organiza¬ tions, it was disclosed. The re- ixirt emphasized that "it ia no longer a question of oppressing Jews but of their complete ex¬ termination by all kinds of especially devised and perfect¬ ed methods of plain torture'".
"In the cily of Otwock", the report said, "the enllre Jewish population numbering .'1,200. was murdered hy two German com panics In the nighl between mid¬ night and H o'clock the follow¬ ing morning". Even before the mass murder which began in Ihc middle of .Inly, 1042. con¬ ditions in tho War.saw ghetto were desperate. "The hunger was so great thai people became craze<l. They refused to share their crumbs. Children would permit , ihelr old parents to starve tb death. There was nothing left lo share".
The report drew a grim pic¬ ture of Nazi atrocities directed against.young boys and glrls.j they die'
thousands the children roaming
the .'ilreets of the ghetto, whose parenl.'j had been either mur¬ dered nr had starved of hunger. Like beasts, the Germans comb¬ ed the ghetto during the day, dragging children out of their homos or off the streets and shooting them before the ghetto gates. The Nazi authorities dislrlbulo arms to the Hitler youlh — and boys of 15 and 16 come Ihrough the ghetto In hordes, .fhoollng down all who cro.ss their path". The report added that German soldiers and Gestapo men visit the ghetto to teat Ihelr marksmanship.
Tho grealesi ma.ss killings of i .lows, houover, wore said to have started on July 8, last year, when "Squads for the Destruc- tlnn of ,lews" (Juden Vernlch- uings Kolnnnen) were Introduc¬ ed. Wilh the destruction squads carrying out their "liquidation" arllvlt^io.^. "Hireel after street, city after city, are completely oiniitiod of ,lcws". Another meth- ocl of disposing of great num- hois of .lows is the deportation system. ;"K\cry day one can see Ihoiistiniis of Jews being led from the concentration points to the trains", the .report says.
