We're pleased to announce that
Defiance Public Library once again
has a director as the board of
trustees, at their January meeting,
hired Marilyn R. Hite to be the
new library director. Miss Hite,
an Indiana native, is presently
the Associate Director for Library
Development at the Indiana State
Library. She will assume her duties
at Defiance on Monday, February
3.
Prior to joining the Indiana
State Library staff in 1989, Miss
Hite was library director at
Bluffton-Wells County (IN) Public
Library for over seven years. In
all, she has nearly 20 years of
library experience.
Immediate past-president of the
board of trustees (new officers
were elected at the same meeting),
Stephen Korhn noted that the board
was very please with the quality
of the applicants for the positions,
and in particular praised Miss
Hite's qualifications saying, "We're
confident that with her education
and background as a local library
director, as well as at the Indiana
State Library, Marilyn will be a
as library director
very effective leader for us at
Defiance."
For Miss Hite, the position here
at Defiance gives her the
opportunity to work within a local
library system again.
"I've had the opportunity to
work as a staff member, director,
and consultant in public libraries
and I find constant challenge and
growth in public library service,"
she said. "I'm looking forward to
working with the library board and
staff in serving the Defiance area
communities."
Miss Hite holds a Master of
Library Science degree, as well
as a Bachelor of Arts degree, from
Indiana University,
