Post
Office
at
Bluffton
,
Ohio
. This
photograph
was
featured
in the "
Turning
Back
the
Clock
"
column
of "The
Bluffton
News
" on
January
4
,
1962
, with the
following
caption
: "
High
pomp
and
ceremony
marked
the
laying
of the
cornerstone
for
Bluffton’s
post
office
on
July
21
,
1940
. The
cornerstone
of the
office
was
laid
under
the
auspices
of the
Bluffton
Masonic
lodge
following
the
ritual
of the
Grand
Lodge
of
Ohio
.
Among
Bluffton
Masons
participating
in the
ceremony
were the
late
C
.
G
.
Coburn
and
G
.
R
.
Bogart
, and
Ralph
Stearns
,
Dr
.
B
.
R
.
Herring
,
Charles
Aukerman
,
Stanley
Basinger
, and the
Rev
.
W
.
L
.
Harmony
. The
Findlay
Masonic
Chorus
,
seated
on
bleachers
in the
background
where
the
post
office
building
was
soon
to
rise
,
sang
four
numbers
. Also
participating
in the
ceremonies
were the
colorfully
costumed
Knights
Templar
from
Findlay
, then
led
by
Forrest
Steinman
of
Bluffton
.
Mr
.
Steinman
was also
chairman
of the
general
committee
presiding
over
the
cornerstone
laying
. The
Bluffton
Lions
club
, the
Ada
National
Guard
unit
, and
Bluffton
Boy
Scouts
also had
parts
in the
ceremonies
.
Identity
of the
two
men
working
on the
cornerstone
in the
foreground
has not been
established
.
Clearly
recognizable
(seated
in the
front
row
behind
the
microphone)
is
postmaster
Ed
Reichenbach
,
whose
jaw
is
turned
up
in the
best
Franklin
D
.
Roosevelt
Democratic
tradition.
