Reveling in the fun
The Amherst Historical Society's annual Jamboree festival was a huge success this weekend,
as these youngsters can prove. Evonts included
a pet parade, to which this young lady brought
her pooch, plenty of food and treats, which these
young men are enjoying, and a bit of history, too,
as demonstrated by this blacksmith's demonstration. For more pictures of the Jamboree, including some winning cars from the car show, see

Sandstone summer troupe to stage 'Godspell'
Sandstone Summer Theatre (SST)
will present "Godspell, A Musical
Based Upon the Gospel According
To St Matthew," as its "millennium" production this year on July
20, 21 and 22.
Celebrating its 31st birthday this
summer, SST is the oldest established youth threatre group in the
area.
Veteran director Nan Mahony,
who is returning for her 14th year,
has a personal bond to "Godspell."
"I had an epiphany the first time I
saw 'Godspell' at age 19, and every
time I see it again, I find something
different and learn something new
about myself," Mahony said.
She said an amazing thing hip-
pens to the cast during their rehearsals and performances.
"They bond together in a life-
changing way" and this unity makes
for a very powerful performance
coming back.

will feature a chorus and cast that
stays on stage the entire performance. And this year's cast, which
runs the gamut in age from college
senior to high school freshman, will
emphasize the universality of
"GodspeH's" message. Mahony
heads the English department at
Lorain Catholic High School. This
is her fourth experience with the
play. She will be assisted by Chris

Music director Jayne Banish is
enthusiastic about the strong voices
in this year's show. With 16 boys
included in the cast, the vocal music
will have power across a broad
spectrum of octaves.
This is also her fourth experience
with "Godspell," a show which she

Garden-loving couple spend years in the yard

On the sandy soils of the
ridge sits a blue house tucked
neatly behind a 200-year-old
pine tree, where the perfectly
groomed lawn and tediously
trimmed hedges soaks up the
grounds that are the garden
sanctuary of Alex and Judy
Pozniak.
For nearly 30 yens the
shoveled and planted and
weeded their half-acre Milan
Avenue lot into a tranquil
setting.
"Hostas do well here with
all the shade we have," points
out Judy, a member of the
Amherst Garden duo. So the
Pocniaks planted koalas.
