'lev. W. A. Tabbert, pastor of the
\mherst Evangelical church Is one
of the iren In public life in Ohio who
has come to the support of the cam-
pnlnti being wafted by the Amerlcnn
Committee for Relief of Oerman Chll-
tlren.
In a report to those In charge of the
campaign thla wek he suggested that
the Sunday School children of Ohio
should welcome an opportunity to aave
the children of Germany from atarva-
tlon and suggested that the matter be
presented to the Sunday Schools Immediately so that the relief may be
sent before the severe winter weather
Ih past. He also referred to the fact
that he drive has been anticipated by
hla church and that clothes and money
huve been sent.
"We have already done for needy
chlldre nln Germany", he aald In his
letter. "As a denomination we are
represented in Germany. We have
two large conference there. In December we took an offering for the needy
there. We could send $449 to them
and at the aame time we gathered and
sent 440 .pounds of warm clothing. The
money was sent through our regular
channels.
"I think all Sabbath -Schools would
welcome an opportunity to give to the
needy children. This could be done
lwthout much delay and before the
winter with its added suffering la
past."

ENTERTAINS LAST NIGHT.
The Brotherhood of St. Peter's Evan
gellcal church entertained the Home

the Three P. class of the Methodlst-
Congregutional church last evening.
The classes met at the church from
which place they were taken to the
basketball game between the St.
Peter's outfit and the Elmore church
team. Following the game a luncheon
was served In tae church parlors and
a abort proganm given.
All those attending the evening's
festivities report a fine time.

STATE HEALTH DEPT.
TO INSPECT WELLS
Water wells In every city and village of tbe state where the water Is
isa'd by the public will be tested by
the state department of health. Announcement to this effect has Just
been made, and the work has started.
The wells of Franklin county, classified as semi-public, were the first to
be tested and several of them have
already been ordered abandoned.
This activity is the beginning of the
"seal and safty" campaign that ls to
be waged, and every well where the
water is Impure will be sealed up, and
the public supply checked until the
unhealthy conditions have either been
remidled or the wells abandoned. Tha
examination of water supply at rural
bouses will be started by the health
department.
HOLD VALENTINE PARTY.
The Security Benefit Association
held a Valentine party ln its lodge
rooms last evening at which time a
large number attended. The evening
was spent in games and music after
which refreshments were served.

Avon high School's 'basketball team
came to Amherst yesterday afternoon
and staged a practice game with** the
local outfit. The locals won the contest by a score of 49-16.
This game completed the schedule
for the high team this week aa the
game with Vermilion Friday night has
been canceled, but will be played at
Vermilion In two weeks.
STONE CHURCH TEAM
TO PLAY TONIGHT.
The basketball team of the Stone
church will play the Ma Jong club of
Lorain, in the Congregational church
gyro tonight. The game will start at
eight o'clock.

time a large number of ladles were
present. A short program' of music,
and readings was given. Refreshments were served by the Domestic
Science department of the High

AMHERST CLUB ORGANIZED AT CLEVELAND
A number of Amherst boys, who are
now ln Cleveland, have banded together and are no wformlng a club
which ls expected to be called the
"Amherst Club".
The first meeting of the club was
held yesterday at noon with nine
young men In attendance. Edward
l.iii/. was elected chairman of a committee to get In touch with the other
Amherst boys ln Cleveland and get
them Interested in the club. Mr.
l.ui/ will be assisted by Nelson Barber on this matter.
The next meeting of the club will
be held Tuesday February 19.

banquet at the Y. M. C. A. in Elyrla
Monday evening. President Leo Meyers presided. Mr. Brophy, of Chicago,

TO ENTERTAIN.
The Phllathei class of St. Peter's
church wlll entertain the Men'B Bible
cluss und the church choir ln the
church parlors tonight.
Police have obtained a clew which
they expect will lead to the arrest of
the three unmasked bandits who held
up customers and proprietors ot the
Deutsch & Lovy department store at
Lorain last Thursday night and obtained $1,550 in cash and Liberty
bonds.
It has been learned the alleged robbers divided the money equally in the
farmhouse of Henry Standen, near
llrowiihelm, two hours after the holdup. Standen states the men asked
lodging for the night and that he told
them they might sleep ln tbe barn.
They later left from Amherst on a
train for Toledo.

sided contest. Both leans played on

score being 8-7 In Berea's favor. In the

It Is an annual custom of tne
Women's Missionary Society to set

TO INSPECT WELLS Water wells In every city and village of tbe state where the water Is isa'd by the public will be tested by the state department of health. Announcement to this effect has Just been made, and the work has started. The wells of Franklin county, classified as semi-public, were the first to be tested and several of them have already been ordered abandoned. This activity is the beginning of the "seal and safty" campaign that ls to be waged, and every well where the water is Impure will be sealed up, and the public supply checked until the unhealthy conditions have either been remidled or the wells abandoned.
