		                 Washington 4 Mo. 28th  1820
      My dear Friend
	                              as I am sure you wish me
           well, and I feel a heart full of good will to
	 you, not withstand     I have staid here so
	 long that I feel very much in a hurry now
	 and cannot take time to give much in de
	 tail at this time.  I will just say that it
	 will require a great deal of diligence and
	 and Industry to arrange my affairs and re
	 move to Delaware on the Whetstone fork of
	Scioto in Ohio to be ready to open the public
	 sales of Land, as the Law contemplates as I 
	 suppose that is to be my residence for a time un
	 less the President should think it would do to
	 run the Risque of further displeasing the
	 the People of Indiana by giving an ap-
    		 			       of 
                                             Indiana					
	 pointment to a nonresident of the state^ as
	 he did last year in appointing General Har-
	 -risons son to the Office of Vincinnes.  I believe
	 this is all that prevents my getting the Brook
	 ville Office in that State which on account of
	 the Great body of friends there etc etc.  I should
	 have prefered   but it is clearly and un
	 equivocally setled that I get one of them
	 and if in Ohio I get my Choice    have given
	 Bond & security for the faithful perform
	 ance of the duties of the office.  am going
