Extract of a Letter to Wm Heald, 10th Mo 12th 1813.
I think it is probable I would choose thee a tolerable
(a ram)
good one if I had an opportunity of making a Choice
and I think it a pity that thou should be under
the necessity of having one of the mixed herd, and
as thy flock is not large it would be time enough
to have one of the first of next month, if thou couldst
keep other rams from them, but as thou art situated
I think it will be best for me to leave thee at liberty
to do as thou thinks proper and for me not to choose
one positively for thee, but instead thereof, when Ervine
comes (If I think it not tool late and he should be taking
sheep to salem) If he is willing to take a ram for thee
in case thou shouldst still want him but not oblige
ing thee to take him. I would choose one for that
purpose according to the best of my Judgement.
and I think he will probably be here n a few days as
Thomas knows that I put my rams with the Ewes
from the 10th to the 15th of this month. H.H.

to request thee
I convey this^ to write immediately by post or othewise &
let me know whether I am to get one of Thos Rotches rams. I am
beginning to fear I shall be altogether disappointed, as a ram
of the common kind has broke into my flock, and how soon
the like may happen again I do not know, and there are
several here in the neighbourhood which I would put to
if it was ascertained that I was not to get one from Tho-
mas's flock. Please to satisfy me by writing let the
state of the business be what it may. W.H.
