My Dear Sir
I have recd your esteemed favors of the 25th Aug
and 10 mo 12th last - for which receive my
thanks - It will always be a great pleasure
to me to learn that you and Mrs Rotch are
in good health - and it is also a gratification
to learn of the particular state of your Country
The new purchased lands of the Natives will
afford an immense field for Speculation
--some will be benefitted and some may
injure themselves - I have little money
to speculate with and must be content
with what I have got - I am happy to
learn your affairs in Ohio grow better - it
was natural to suppose that the Banks
pay
being compelled to ^specie would for a while
produce embarrassments and it was always
my opinion that Country banks wold
be injurious rather than beneficial-
I have recd a letter from James Duncan
who informs me his Mother is coming this way.
He forgot to answer one of my queries-
He informed some time ago that a turnpike
road had been granted through Mansfield
to the Lake but did not inform me where
it terminated at the Lake - this I am
