In care of Jacob Barker, Merchant, New York for Thomas Rotch
[Hartford May 27]
The consideration of my dear TR being exposed
to the watery Element, did not contribute to my Sleep
last night, as the wind seem d high here; Lewis
went that afternoon, & found the potatoes; which
have fared better than he expected, he has got
out 4 bushel, of pieces, that will do to plant; & Dr.
Coggshall, has had half a bushel; so that thou need not
take the trouble to get more; but if coud get them
or 4 good ones to eat; they wou d be acceptable, I thot those
might come in the trunk; please pay E Barker, for 8 yards
of [illegible]
7th day. I have since beginning this perceived that the
wind was unfair for the packet, at least it is thought
so here, so that thou probably may not yet be in NYork
I hope thou hast been careful not to get over fatigued
I had rather thou shou d omit meeting to day; than do
that- my love to our frds & connections. I feel well
satisfied that I am at home, & am quite as comfort
able this morning as common~ affectionately
farewell C Rotch
