My dear Sister Philadelphia 2d Month 5th 1815
Before thou receives this, I expect you will hear
of the Decease of our valued friend Thomas Coffin, he departed
near Eleven O Clock last 4th day after a Short illness. Solemn
moments indeed he was visiting with his Wife, (as I heard)
Wm Penrose & family, the 26th of last month 5th day of the week
& the 5th day following was laid in his Grave before his
interment I visited the mournful family it seem d a House
of mourning indeed---while I was there Emmer Kimber came
in, & had a feeling communication which I hope tended
to their encouragement, I suppose the brother, & Sister M-
Folger, & wife; will have a more particular account of this
affecting Event than I can give---the weather was extream
cold & our family much within doors, that I did not
hear of his sickness till the day before his Death his disorder
was call d the Typhus Fever. ---Yesterday our Select quar=
=terly Meeting was held I thought it a time of instruction
we had six Elders, & one minister introduced dost thou
know any of them. Samuel Beattle a member of the
middle District was the Minister(recommended)his wife,
Hannah Elliot, & Catherine Morris, And Doctor Griffith
Elders for the middle Meeting. Edward Randolph,
& Israel Maul for the North Meeting.
