Dear Son, March 30 1846
Yours of last week came duly to hand & have not much time to write. I have been to the woods to help load saw logs & in talking hold to help it has set my nerves all in flutter that I can not carry a steady hand. we have had very cold weather with at least 20 inches of snow & first note sleighing it however is clear & moderate to day & much of it will waste. On the 19th of last Nov. one foot of snow fell & last Saturday it snowed through the day & all in all we have the relics of two feet of snow on the ground at this time. the district schools ended on last Saturday. There are six or eight first rate spellers in that school and Miss Waven had a small examination on Friday last. Charles has learned well. This [illegible] & his mother is getting smart. Mohican levee has failed & Ashland is created a new levee it was an amalgam
