[report of the Committee after attending the Legislature of Ohio]
We of the Committee to attend the Legislature
of this State with the Memorial having perform
in company with two Friends from S.Caro
=ed our appointment do report- That we
presented it where it was respectfully read and at
each of the respective Houses in course a select
committee was appointed to take the subject into
consideration and if any way could be devised for our
relief to report the same. Before this Committee and
such of the members as were disposed to attend the
interview we endeavoured to explain the nature
of the principles of Truth as professed by us as a
religious society and the grounds of Our Testimony
against War and also attended the reading and
passing into a law, a new Malitia bill
entitled an Act for disciplining the Malitia bill
although we did not obtain the relief that would
be desirable yet their respect for Our society
induced them to ameliorate such parts of the
Bill as more immediately respected us in
its Operation as far as they thought consistant
with the Constitution and safety of the state; which
in the present calamitous state of the nation so
widely differs from Our view of the subject that
we think it may not be a miss to recommend
to the Quarterly Meeting, to keep in view
