Articles of agreements made and entered into by and between the Charity School of Kendal by its Trustees Arvine Wales, Silberthrop Earl, Thomas Blackburn, Arnold Lynch, and William Dunbar, of the County of Stark, and State of Ohio and Philander Dawley witnesseth : that the said Philander Dawley for the Consideration herein latter mentioned, hereby agrees to take charge of said Charity School on the first day of June next and conduct the same in the manner hereafter specified. That is to say, there are to be ten pupils entered the first year, and ten each year thereafter for the three years next succeeding so as to admit forty pupils in all- and teach said pupils all the branches of English, education including Reading, writing, Arithmetic, Grammar, Geography, History, Natural and Moral Philosophy and Agricultural Chemistry, and to teach them habits of industry, morality and economy, so far at least as they may be susceptable of being taught and further is to provide comfortable lodgings for said pupils and to provide them with sufficient wholesome plain food, comfortable and substantial appearance suitable to the season, washing, and medicines and such other necessaries as may be required for the health and comfort of said pupils, also to teach the boys the science and principles of farming. The hours of labor from the first of November to the first of March to be five hours each day – Eight hours for repose, and the balance of the time to be devoted to study, recitations, executions, from the first of May to the first of September nine hours shall be devoted to labor, eight to repose and the balance of the time to study, recitations etc and during
