I have had the pleasure of receiving your litter of the 17th Ult as it respects the debt that Richard Imlays owes me. I will just state to you the manner he became indebted to me, he called upon me at the quarterly meeting held at Salem I think it was the 15th June last and got linen from me to the amount I stated to you in my first letter & said at that time that if his wife liked the linen he would send me an order for more, which he accordingly did in three or four weeks after. I sent the linen to Geo Stedger in Canton agreeable to his order, at the same time left the amount of what he owed me & directed Mr Stedger not to let him have the linen
