I wrote thee to which refer Fogle was here a few days since and I by chance recognised him. he seemd very indifferent about the business between Earl & myself, and had the assurance to say that he believed Earle sent me a good note, I asked him when he was a going to leave the City, he decieved me [illegible] intended to have put a writ on his back, I am now fully of the mind that he is in some way quilty in this business, what if I say he substituted a note in the letter taking the whole business together it indeed looks very suspicious, I regret much that, I missed him, I know it would have terrified him and I think to some purpose. I want thee to let me know by all means when leaves your place for this city if thou can, I suppose Earl stays at home. did thou ever say any thing to Sterling about the note, he was present when I returned it to Fogle when I used these remarkable words, (holding the note up to the light) "I will remember advising Earl to buy this note" this proved would place him in a critical situation, as thou
