                                      Chillicothe July 2nd 1814
Respected friend;
  I am under the necessity of troubling thee for receive from Ebenezer Alman(who lives a few miles south of thee) a small sum of money which he has owed me for a long time. The land he lives on was entered by me, for him; for which he engaged to give me one quarter section, of the same, after he had paid the first instalment, eighty dollars in money- After some time he appeared to consider this sum of eighty dollars rather high, and said he thought 64$ enough. I consented to take 64$ provided it was immediately paid; but it has never been paid to this day. Nor have I ever heard from him since I left Steubenville; until I received a letter from him by this days mail; informing me that he was ready to pay the money  to such person as I should direct – I have directed him to pay it to thee – the following is a statement of the sum due – principal -                $64:00
 Interests thereon for 8 years & 3 months, being 31.68 From the time this land was entered (April 7th 1806) 
  To which must be added the interest from the $95.68 7th of this month until paid.
  After receiving the above, please to transmit it to Robt Carrel of Steubenville, who will reciept therefor.
  Please to give E. Alman a receipt, stating the purpose for which paid. Myself and family are in health.
