Thy esteemed favour received in due course of mail
claims my best acknowledgments with a speedy answer.
I have been pleased with the residence of our
dear Maria with her husband so near us for a year
past. It is a matter of serious concern to me
that any diversity of sentiments or disagreement
should have occurred among friends equally Dear
and it is a delicate point to interfere in
such cases but conceive it due to truth and
justice to state my opinion according to thy request.
I think that the house and lot purchased by M
Imlay is in an eligible situation and was purcha
sed very low say for $1200 than it would now bring
R Imlay appears enterprizing and attentive to business
and will I think by the blessing of providence on his exer
tions and industry do well. I am told by M.Imlay
that the deed for the sd house and lot is made to
Josephy M Lowrie, in trust for her separate use and no
way liable to the engagements & use of R. Imlay. On account
of the great distance at which thou resides & from
R.&.M Imlay I can have no doubt that it would
be greatly conducive to the interest and convenience of
Maria that the deed of trust should be assigned to Joseph
M Lowrie and it is my earnest desire and request that
thou shouldst assign it as heretofore requested. He is a
