Esteemed Friend
I got to Nathan Luptons last evening and found that he had lost forty lams, 11 old sheep, 12 lams a live. Jesse Barker has 5 lams lost, 1 7 old sheep died. R Richie has lost 12 old sheep 6 lams, 17 a live. all the old rams are dead but the long horned one they principally I believe died with the rot. Lupton says that he was not neglectful of them that they dropt their lams in the coldest of the weather that the Ewes had no milk and would not own their lams. Yet they might not be quite not so attentive as they could have been. The old sheep mostly died at the approach of warm weather. R. Richie says he don't care whether I spend any time here or no as I did come in the cold wether. It is no great trouble in the warm. David Steens has bot one Ewe some time since upon the offer you gave his Father. There is a considerable No. of Ewes that lam soon etc. Arvine Wales
